The Arizona Dance Coalition (ADC) is a statewide organization designed to assist the cultural and educational needs of the dance community, schools and general public by providing educational information, resources and services that are related to the field of dance. ADC serves Arizona and the dance community by providing an outlet for sharing information about dance with the general public, and to expose dance arts as a viable cultural entity in every community.

ADC strives to create connections and communication between the general public, dance artists, dance educators, dance companies and others in dance related fields statewide.

Our purpose is to:

  • Create connections and communication statewide
  • Provide dance education workshops and lectures
  • Provide resources, services and opportunities for dancers
  • Increase public awareness, understanding and access to dance
  • Facilitate dance forums
  • Seek funding to sponsor dance events, workshops and dance scholarships
  • Provide and maintain an informational website with a calendar of events, articles and blogs on dance-related topics, monthly e-blast/e-newsletter and member directory

ADC membership is for dancers, dance organizations, choreographers, dance educators, musicians/composers for dance, production and technical artists, venues/presenters of dance, sponsors, and those who are passionate and committed to the growth and development of the art of dance and its related fields.

ADC ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING & BRUNCH – Meet ADC Board of Directors and Members from around the state. ADC Regional Representatives will share dance news from their regions. Catherine “Rusty” Foley, Executive Director of Arizona Citizens for the Arts, will provide insights to arts advocacy, arts promotion and how to engage politicians in the arts. The brunch meeting will be held at The Morning Glory Cafe at The Farm at South Mountain, 6101 S. 32nd Street, Phoenix (S of Southern on west side of 32nd Street) from 11:00am-1:00pm. ADC MEET & GREET – ADC hosts a MEET & GREET in Tucson from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the University Dance Project, 6318 E. Broadway Blvd, Tucson (SE corner of Broadway & Wilmot, near the El Charro Cafe visible in the El Mercado Shopping Center). Meet the ADC officers and colleagues to learn about ADC and its mission. EAST VALLEY TRIBUNE GET OUT PERFORMING ARTS EXPO – ADC partners with Desert Dance Theatre as co-sponsors of an exhibit booth at the East Valley Tribune 12th Annual Get Out Performing Arts Expo at the Mesa Arts Center. We are providing an opportunity for our local dance artists to share their season offerings to the general public.

ARIZONA AFTERSCHOOL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE – ADC will be an exhibitor at the 2011 Arizona Statewide Afterschool Conference at the Phoenix Convention Center, providing teaching dance artists opportunities to showcase their afterschool program ideas and connect with community, school and government leaders. ADC Members are given the opportunity to share their offerings in ADC’s booth.

TUCSON MEET YOURSELF FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL - ADC partners with Tucson Meet Yourself Folklife Festival in Downtown Tucson by offering opportunities for dancers and volunteers for the event. The event focuses on worldwide cultural arts and ethnic traditions. Free dance classes will be offered at the Leo Rich Theatre. Free Event!

NATIONAL DANCE EDUCATION ORGANIZATION CONFERENCE 2010 – ADC will be an Exhibitor at the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Conference 2010. The NDEO, in cooperation with Arizona Dance Education Organization and the Herberger Institute School of Dance at Arizona State University, presents a 5 day conference exploring how dance can prepare students for increasingly complex life and work environments in the 21st century.

LEARNING FROM A LEGEND: BILL EVANS TECHNIQUE & COMPOSITION WORKSHOP – ADC offers two scholarships to high school students with financial hardships to attend the Bill Evans Workshop as part of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Conference in Tempe.

TAP IMPROV 101: MINDS & FEET – ADC presents Tap Improv 101: Minds & Feet at Tap Sensation Studio in Tucson. A panel of Tucson tap dance artists and jazz musicians will lead a discussion and demonstration on “how to” prepare for Tap Jams and Challenges. Welcome to guest panelist, Chrissy Jones! Free Event! RECYCLING COSTUMES FOR DANCE WORKSHOP – ADC presents Recycling Costumes for Dance at Dance Theater West in Phoenix. This 2-hour workshop is designed to help dancers recycle past costumes. Some basic sewing and dyeing information will be shared as well as quick tips on easy changes. Participants are encouraged to bring 1 costume for review and group discussion. The workshop will be lead by Marlina Kessler of 12th Street Costumes and Dancewear. Free Event! Donations welcomed.

ARIZONA DANCE COALITION ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING – ADC hosts an open reception prior to its Annual Membership Meeting. The dance community and general public are invited to attend. Special guest speakers may include but not limited to: community arts leader knowledgeable about philanthropy, senior members of the dance community with extensive knowledge and history in the world of dance, and an established dance educator from the Arizona Dance Education Organization. ADC will announce new board members and present a Lifetime Achievement Award to a prominent dance figure in the dance community.

YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHERS TAP DANCE COMPETITION for ages 16-30.  Cash prizes ranging from $150-$50 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  Winners will be announced April 30 and will get to perform their winning choreography at the Sounds of the Soles of the Southwest performance May 21 during the National TAP Dance Day Celebration in Tucson.  For details, contact gro.noitilaoCecnaDzAnull@anytsyrK or call 520-743-1349.  Submissions will be adjudicated by tap masters outside the community to insure anonymity and fairness in judging.  Deadline for submissions: March 28, 2011

ADC MEMBERS TO SUBMIT NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2011 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS. New members may receive a nomination form from Lisa Chow, gro.noitilaoCecnaDzAnull@asiLDeadline for nominations is March 31, 2011. Winners will be announced throughout the year at the various festivals and dance events co-sponsored by the ADC.

NATIONAL TAP DANCE DAY CELEBRATION – ADC co-sponsors this annual tap dance festival through grants awarded by the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Master tap dance classes and lecture demonstrations for ages 10 and up and levels beginner through advanced will be held at the Pima Community College Center for the Arts, West Campus, Tucson.  Sounds of the Soles of the Southwest performance will be held on Saturday, May 21 @ 7 pm.  Tap dancers from across Arizona are invited to perform.  Contact gro.noitilaoCecnaDzAnull@anytsyrK for submission details.  To keep a tradition alive, all are invited to come up on stage and perform the Shim Sham Shimmy at the end of the show.   The weekend celebration will culminate with a free to the public performance by master class participants, a TAP JAM and possible tap challenge.  A lecture on the history of TAP will be included.  More details will be available closer to the event.  Discounts for ADC members available.  Discount deadline for master class registration:  April 1.
