Description: Dr. Cynthisa Roses-Thema, senior lecturer at Arizona Sate University’s
School of Dance, will present an all day workshop with a kinesiological
focus. She will discuss how tensegrity, a progressive way to model the
entire body in movement, impacts dance technique instruction of the 21st
century dancer. Specific issues that will be addressed are locating the
core, dynamic alignment, and rotation. In addition, Dr. Roses-Thema
will connect tensegrity to her original SPINE theory and provide
curriculum for a contemporary ballet class. Participants will receive online
documentation and supplemental material.

Artistic Director, Moving Arts Dance
An award-winning choreographer, Anandha is the Artistic Director of Moving Arts Dance, a small but mighty, internationally touring, contemporary dance company. Ray toured with several small modern dance companies before receiving her master’s degrees and ultimately founding Moving Arts Dance (1994). With an interest in continually exploring the absolutely new, Ray has utilized the company’s tours to do research into the stylistic trends of dance in Europe. Excited to find that the world of ballet is incorporating modern influences, Ray has enjoyed the convergence of these two styles in the creation of such performances as a contemporary and very haunting Giselle, a hilarious, Gothic-tinged version of Alice-in-Wonderland set in Wonderland today as Alice\’s granddaughter topples down the same rabbit\’s hole in Back to Wonderland, and “Night Visions”, a delightfully dark, Halloween inspired, environmental performance in which audiences tour a “wax museum” in which sculptures magically come to life –and even transform audience members into spider-creatures. One her passions in the creation of these new works is to incorporate creative input from artistic partnerships with the dancers. \”I am inspired by the continual development of new edges in dance. I love pushing every limitation to the point that the limitation becomes the element of change, inspiring fresh approaches to movement expression.” -2009
