ONE WEEK DANCE EXPERIENCE WITH ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER “THROUGHLINES”

The ultimate experience for dance students ages 12 – 18. This spring break dance experience gives dancers the opportunity to take a week of master classes in a variety of techniques and learn from instructors at the top of their field in techniques like, modern, jazz/hip hop and West African. Your registration also provides you with two Alvin Ailey performance tickets to round out this exciting week at the Ikeda Theatre of the Mesa Arts Center.

CONTRA-TIEMPO is a Los Angeles based dance company, founded and directed by Ana Maria Alvarez. The company fuses Salsa, Afro-Cuban, Hip-Hop, and abstract dance theater.

Ana Maria Alvarez (Artistic Director- CONTRA-TIEMPO, Choreographer and Dancer) Alvarez received her MFA in Choreography from UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures, where she currently teaches.

We will be exploring 2 different movement classes. The first class will be an Alexander Technique lead by Laura Donnelly from Arizona State University and the second will be an Afro-Modern class given by Zari from Grand Canyon University.

In between movement classes we will conduct share out sessions relating to dance history lessons and concepts. Please bring a history lesson and/or concepts with you.
Email Amy Crow (gro.trasydnull@worc.yma) with your lesson/concept and she will put together a “share out” agenda.
