SUMMARY:ASU Spring Dance Fest (Tempe)
DESCRIPTION:Spring Dance Fest is an annual juried performance featuring the most innovative work of the Arizona State University dance season\, bringing together a dynamic collection of new works created within the School of Music\, Dance and Theatre. \n\nSpring Dance Fest\nWhen: 7:30 p.m. April 24–25; 2 p.m. April 26\nWhere: Galvin Playhouse Theatre\, ASU Tempe campus \nTicket information can be found here. \n\nThis 2025–26 season\, the pieces selected by the program committee reflect a wide range of choreographic voices\, drawing from different movement traditions\, creative processes and artistic perspectives. \n“The program moves through a wide range of choreographic landscapes\, from quietly unfolding duets to large-scale ensemble works\,” said Mitchell Castro\, dance graduate student and associate artistic director of dance this year. “Each piece offers a distinct perspective on movement\, inviting audiences into worlds shaped by curiosity\, collaboration and the evolving voices of ASU dance artists.” \nAudiences will experience works by guest artists Akosua Akoto and Joan Rodriguez; faculty choreographer MK Ford; and ASU student choreographers Ashley Koclanis\, Astrid Camacho\, Diana Toledo\, j. bouey and Yi Peng. \n“The works are brought to life by a large ensemble of ASU dancers\, each piece offering a distinct choreographic voice and approach to movement\,” said Mitchell. \nRodriguez said he was thrilled to work with ASU students. A Cuban-born dancer\, choreographer and educator known for his dynamic versatility and signature blend of Afro-Latin\, contemporary and multimedia movement\, Rodriguez is currently in his fourth season with BODYTRAFFIC in Los Angeles. \n“I think that some of the smartest artists that I have encountered are trained and based here\,” said Rodriguez. “My best advice is to really take in as much as you can of your teachers\, the amazing faculty that you have here\, and how much this city has to offer in regards to growing as a wholesome\, holistic artist — not just as a dancer.” \nHis work is a tribute to where he is now\, to his home country of Cuba and to what it feels like to be home. He said he wanted to create a work that “feels like you are being pulled back to the best memories you ever had.” \nAkoto has worked as a performer\, choreographer\, cultural consultant and movement coach for recording artists\, films\, major award shows\, dance tours and music videos. Her work features both traditional and contemporary West African dance styles. \nAkoto’s choreography for Spring Dance Fest\, “Farafina Muso\,” will be presented in three parts: “Maraka” comes from the Soninke people in the Kayes region of Mali and is performed to welcome the Marakafoli people when they arrive for social festivities like weddings. The dance is designed to welcome the audience to the piece. “Koredjuga” is from the Bamana people of Guinea and Mali\, who are known for their comedic wisdom — they perform for the public in a mime-like or gesture fashion as they give life lessons. The last track is a fusion of dances from Guinea and Mali that honors African women\, mothers and young girls. The featured dances and techniques are also taken from several other traditional rhythms including Yokui\, Guinea Fare\, Mane\, Kassa\, Bao\, Yankadi and Yamama. \n“Throttle\,” by Clinical Assistant Professor MK Ford\, features a live performance created with ASU students. There will also be a lobby installation highlighting excerpts of a screendance titled “State of Emergency/State of Emergence\,” created in collaboration with Glendale Community College students. \nFor choreographers Koclanis and bouey as well as performer Jimena Perez-Flores\, this will be their last performance at ASU. \nThe five pieces created by undergraduate and graduate students include: “Half Life” by Yi Peng and Grace Crain; “HYSTERIA” by Ashley Koclanis; “SATURN: Chapter One” by j. bouey; “Otro Dia” by Astrid Camacho; and “Doom Bags: A Love Letter to the ADHD Weirdo” by Diana Toledo\, \nAudiences can purchase tickets to attend Spring Dance Fest through the Herberger Institute Box Office. \nhttps://news.asu.edu/b/20260414-202526-asu-spring-dance-fest-brings-innovative-dance-works-stage?

SUMMARY:Sedona Choreography Retreat Sedona Chamber Ballet and Ballet Arizona Collaborate
DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nSedona Choreography Retreat: Where Visionaries Create the Future of Dance \nDates: June 11–13\, June 15–20\, 2025\nFinal Showcase Performance: June 20\, 2025\nWebsite: sedonaballet.org/retreats \nSet against the breathtaking backdrop of Sedona’s iconic red rocks\, the inaugural Sedona Choreography Retreat is an extraordinary convergence of artistic brilliance\, innovation\, and collaboration. Over the course of ten electrifying days\, world-class artists will come together to create new works that will premiere in an exclusive final performance—offering audiences a rare glimpse into the future of dance. \nAt the heart of the retreat is Nayon Iovino\, renowned choreographer and Artistic Director of the retreat. Known for his emotionally resonant and visually stunning work with Ballet Arizona\, Iovino will debut a brand-new ballet inspired by the haunting compositions of Christel Veraart. Drawing from Veraart’s evocative album Nostalgia and her latest audiovisual creation Santa Fe & Esmeralda – Nostalgia\, Iovino’s new work promises a profound fusion of music\, imagery\, and movement. \nJoining him is the incomparable LaTasha Barnes\, an award-winning dancer\, choreographer\, and scholar celebrated for bridging Black social dance traditions with contemporary innovation. At the retreat\, Barnes will unveil the Flow State Project—a groundbreaking interdisciplinary performance that translates live movement into real-time digital soundscapes. Each gesture creates a sonic imprint\, inviting audiences into an immersive sensory world where rhythm\, energy\, and technology converge. \nIn collaboration with the nationally recognized Ballet Arizona\, the Sedona Choreography Retreat brings together an elite ensemble of Ballet Arizona’s professional dancers alongside top emerging talent from Arizona State University’s prestigious dance program. Together\, these visionary artists are creating a collaborative environment rarely seen outside of major metropolitan centers. \nThroughout the retreat\, the public is invited to engage deeply with the creative process through a series of Conversation Workshops\, Open Rehearsals\, and a Masterclass for local students. These events offer an unprecedented opportunity to witness the evolution of new works\, meet the artists\, and experience the dynamic collaboration between choreographers\, dancers\, musicians\, and designers. Aspiring young dancers will also have the chance to work directly with these distinguished artists\, receiving mentorship and inspiration to fuel their own artistic journeys. \nThe retreat culminates in an electrifying Showcase Performance on June 20\, 2025\, featuring world premieres and celebrated masterpieces: \nWorld Premieres \n\nNayon Iovino’s new ballet inspired by Christel Veraart’s richly atmospheric music and visual storytelling\nLaTasha Barnes’ Flow State Project\, a dynamic exploration of dance\, technology\, and cultural roots\n\nSpecial Repertoire Highlights \n\nExcerpt from Serenade by George Balanchine\nWith permission from The George Balanchine Trust\, audiences will experience Sonatina—an excerpt from Balanchine’s landmark Serenade. Set to Tchaikovsky’s lush score\, this piece captures the timeless grace\, sweeping musicality\, and emotional resonance that defined Balanchine’s revolutionary vision.\nTake Me With You by Robert Bondara\nA powerful pas de deux set to Radiohead’s haunting Reckoner\, Bondara’s celebrated duet has traveled the world from Roberto Bolle and Melissa Hamilton’s original performance to stagings at Stanislavsky Ballet\, Czech National Ballet\, and soon\, Dance Theatre of Harlem. It is a lyrical yet visceral meditation on connection\, longing\, and the unspoken dialogue between two dancers.\nVastwave by Natasha Adorlee\nEmmy Award-winning choreographer Natasha Adorlee brings her latest creation\, Vastwave\, to life with Ballet Arizona’s Studio Company dancers. Blending electrifying original sound design with kinetic contemporary movement\, Adorlee’s work captures the ebb and flow of human experience through evocative waves of sound and motion.\n\nThe Sedona Choreography Retreat represents a bold new chapter in dance innovation—blending classical excellence\, contemporary vision\, multicultural roots\, and cutting-edge technology in one of the most inspiring natural settings in America. \nThis is a rare opportunity to witness the birth of groundbreaking new works and experience the creative forces shaping the future of dance. \n🎟️ For full details and ticket information\, visit: sedonaballet.org/retreats

SUMMARY:CaZo's Once Upon a Bachelor Season 3: Third Times a Charm (Tempe)
DESCRIPTION:Third Times a Charm as Once Upon a Bachelor Returns For Season 3 \nMesa\, Arizona\, February 16\, 2024 — CaZo Dance Theatre leap to the stage this Spring to debut season three of their wildly popular\, full-length dance production\, Once Upon a Bachelor. \nAlthough much of the show stays true to its roots\, season three opens its doors to the show’s first fairytale bachelor\, Reyrana\, Prince of Padovia. “The original idea for the show was to showcase a dozen fairytale princesses vying for the love of an ordinary man\,” says CaZo Creative Director and Choreographer Bridgette Borzillo. “But as the show continues to grow in popularity\, we have to keep upping our game. Having the bachelor also be a fairytale character felt like a perfect next step in the show’s evolution.” \nTo build even more excitement for the show\, Borzillo called upon the show’s fans to choose which characters from past seasons would return. “Once Upon a Bachelor has always been an interactive experience. Allowing the people to vote for which characters would appear in this new season added a new level to what makes this show so popular.” \nLike its predecessors\, Once Upon a Bachelor Season 3: Third Times a Charm includes plenty of pre-recorded “confessionals” sprinkled throughout the show. With 35 different possible outcomes due to 8 voting opportunities and Audience participation\, each performance will be an exciting and fresh experience. \nOnce Upon a Bachelor Season 3: Third Times a Charm will be performed LIVE at Tempe Center for the Arts (700 W.
Rio Salado Pkwy.\, Tempe\, AZ) on Friday\, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday\, April 27 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at www.cazodance.com or on Cazo Dance Company’s official Facebook Page. Prices are $28 for general audiences\, $20 for students\, $55 for VIP (limited quantities)\, and $22 for virtual tickets. \nDoors open 45 minutes prior to the top of the show and will include a thirty-minute pre-show that includes live performances from CaZo Dance Theatre’s Apprentice\, Pre-Core members\, and our Studio’s Student CaZo X Dance team\, along with introductory confessionals that are sure to leave you in stitches. \n“Three years into this show\, we’ve found a natural footing\,” says Borzillo. “Because of that\, season three is set to become one of our best shows in our 10-year history.” \nTime to find love for a third time with your favorite fairytale characters! \nContact:\nBridgette Borzillo\nCaZo Dance Theatre www.cazodance.com moc.liamgnull@ynapmocecnadozac 619-322-4178
