Gibney Company’s model for a 21st-century dance company supports sustainable careers for dancers and healthy working relationships for artists and collaborators. Company members are full-time artistic associates who contribute not only as impeccable performing artists but also as activists and cultural entrepreneurs. The artistic associates advance the quality of the organization’s artistry through performance and deepen its community engagement through Moving Toward Justice Fellowships designed to address social issues and inequities in the dance field.  \nAbout Gina Gibney \nGina Gibney\, a nationally recognized leader and entrepreneur in the field of arts and social justice\, is the founder\, director\, and CEO of Gibney\, a New York City-based arts organization dedicated to dance and social action. With a belief in the vast potential of movement\, creativity\, and performance to effect personal change and social transformation\, Gina Gibney established the Gibney organization in Manhattan in 1991. Today\, Gibney’s presenting and training fellowship and residency programs have served and supported thousands of New York City artists and audiences. Community outreach programs have impacted hundreds of lives\, especially those who have been impacted by domestic violence\, economic inequality\, and workforce development. Gibney Company has grown from a small troupe of dancers presenting Gina Gibney’s choreography into a critically acclaimed internationally touring contemporary dance company\,dedicated to commissioning and presenting today’s most compelling choreographers. Gibney operates two New York City locations—280 Broadway near City Hall and 890 Broadway above Union Square—encompassing 23 studios and five performing spaces that serve as a nexus for a diverse and expansive artistic community.   \nAbout Gilbert T Small II \nOriginally from Baltimore\, Maryland\, Gilbert T Small II’s formal training started at the Baltimore School for the Arts. He received his bachelor of fine arts from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance in 2009. While at Purchase\, he studied abroad at Codarts in Rotterdam\, an opportunity that shifted his perspective\, pushing him to investigate and explore the multifaceted nature of the art form. Small was a leading artist with the internationally acclaimed Ballet British Columbia under the leadership of Emily Molnar. During his 10 years with the company\, he worked with choreographers like William Forsythe\, Crystal Pite\, Medhi Walerski\, Emily Molnar\, and Cayetano Soto. As a senior artist with Ballet BC\, he was asked to take on the role of rehearsal director for the company’s fall 2017 season. Specifically\, the presentation will include discussions about its agency’s programming\, grant programs\, upcoming events\, and the newly released Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 study results.  \nChris Elliott\, a Special Initiatives and Communications Coordinator\, is serving at the Arizona Commission on the Arts as a Public Ally AZ Member for his second year. Originally from New Jersey\, he grew up immersed in a variety of musical activities. In 2019\, he received a B.A. in Sociology and Music\, from Goucher College. In 2022\, he received a M.M. in Music Theatre from Arizona State University. Chris has always had a passion for the arts and performing. Combining that with his interests in sociology and musicology\, he decided to apply his skills and interest to the Arts Administration world. He brings to the Arizona Commission on the Arts experience in community engagement and outreach\, project management\, and communications. Chris’s first year with the Arizona Commission on the Arts had him successfully complete the Arts and Economic Prosperity 6 Study for the state of Arizona. In his spare time\, Chris can be found performing in various musicals throughout the Phoenix area.  \n  \n \nDelia Ibañez is a multidisciplinary artist and administrator working to decenter the self and create worlds inspired by the ancestors – both human and fungal. Delia’s personal body of work\, Process in Place\, has four branches – workbooks\, residencies\, collections\, and workshops – which all intertwine to form networks of inquisitive creative action directly impacted by geographical context. The geographical communities that shape this work are the Northern Neck of Virginia and Metro Phoenix Arizona. Delia is proud to serve to individual artists of the state of Arizona as Artist Programs Coordinator for Arizona Commission on the Arts\, managing the Artist Opportunity Grant and facilitating the Artist Investment Program. \nDelia Ibañez graduated from Arizona State University in 2020 with a BA in Performance and Movement. Since then they have worked steadily in the Dance sector as a teacher\, choreographer\, performer\, and administrator. Delia is currently collaborating with Greybox Collective utilizing their Trauma Informed Creative Practices model. As a member of several national networks\, including Latin Hispanic Dancers United and the Queer Farmer Network\, they offer expertise as a community engagement specialist and freelance program coordinator particularly within latinx and rural communities. Delia Ibañez has been awarded grant funding through NALAC\, City of Phoenix\, Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts\, and Arizona Commission on the Arts. \n_________________________________________________________ \nSuzy Guarino-Hall\, Tap 24.7 \nPresentation: “My Love Affair with Tap”\nEmbark on a journey into the rhythmic realm of tap dancing with me as I delve into my enduring passion for this timeless art. In my presentation\, I will weave a narrative that traces the footsteps of historical tap dance masters who inspired me in my youth\, while also illuminating the evolving depth of my appreciation for the craft. Join me in exploring the legacy I impart to my students and the innovative concepts and creations that will propel the art of tap into a vibrant future. \nPlease participate in Suzy’s tap dance class.  \nSuzy Guarino-Hall\, holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Loyola University Chicago\, and is the visionary behind the Phoenix-based tap company\, Tap 24.7. In this role\, she has crafted\, produced\, and directed 13 original shows\, captivating audiences not only in Phoenix but also in cities like Detroit\, Seattle\, and San Diego. From the enchanting “Tappy the Elf” to the gripping “Murder at The TAP’Ocho\,” Suzy’s productions showcase her versatility and creativity. \nAs a tap dance choreographer and teacher\, Suzy imparts her expertise through workshops at esteemed events such as Motor City Tap Fest and Phoenix Tap Fest. Her influence extends to dance competitions\, where she serves as show director for AMP Dance Competitions adjudicator for In10sity Dance\, demonstrating her keen eye for talent and artistic expression. \nIn the Phoenix area\, Suzy is a respected figure at The Dance Project\, Take Five Dance Academy\, and LA Dance\, where she choreographs for competition groups\, garnering multiple national awards for her outstanding work. Her students\, under her guidance\, consistently earn national titles\, a testament to her exceptional teaching and choreographic skills. \nCurrently in her ninth year as adjunct faculty for the dance department at Grand Canyon University\, Suzy teaches tap at all levels\, leaving an indelible mark on the next generation of performers. Beyond being a dancer and choreographer\, Suzy Guarino-Hall is a storyteller\, shaping the narrative of tap dance and leaving an enduring legacy in the hearts of those she inspires. \n_________________________________________________________ \n Daniela Borgialli\, International Argentine Tango Academy \nPresentation: Argentine Tango: Moving Beyond Patterns\nThis dance that was birthed during a huge planned immigration in the late 1800’s is alive and well today as a global phenomenon. What makes this dance form so compelling\, not just as a spectator but as a dancer?  \nPlease participate in the dance class: Argentine Tango Connection 101  \nDaniela Borgialli has been teaching performing dancing Argentine Tango for more than 25 years. Once the tango bug bit she went wherever she could for more! She received her MFA in Dance from ASU and taught Tango 1 and Tango 2 at ASU for 10 years. She built the syllabus and curriculum and in 2015 published The Tango Workbook (currently under revision) to accompany students in their Argentine Tango journey. Although a self-proclaimed social dancer\, she trained and competed in over 5 Argentine Tango competitions in the US and in Argentina. In 2012 she and her partner received 2nd place in the US Tango Salon Championship in San Francisco. In 2015 she moved to Europe where she was based in Berlin and taught and performed throughout Europe. In 2016 she received certification from her maestra\, Graciela Gonzalez to teach her methodology. In 2023 she returned to Arizona to found the International Argentine Tango Academy and is happily teaching Tango 1 at ASU again as well as several courses as adjunct faculty at Mesa Community College.

Jami will share a little bit about herself and share some of the things that were successful and what she learned on the journey to accomplish her fundraising goals. \nBio: As director of development for the ballet since 2015\, Kozemczak has a record of consistently meeting and exceeding contributed revenue goals to advance the organization. During her tenure at Ballet Arizona\, the organization established a culture of philanthropy that permeates throughout the entire organization. Kozemczak has secured more than $36 million in contributed revenue during her time at Ballet Arizona and led the charge for the Be Our Bridge Recovery and Relief Fund that ensured all staff members and dancers remained fully employed during the Covid-19 crisis.  \nKozemczak’s experience in arts non-profit management includes fundraising\, public relations\, communications\, donor relations\, and marketing. Beginning her career as a marketing professional\, she quickly transitioned to fundraising after discovering her true vocation was helping connect donors to their passion. Kozemczak holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Arizona State University. She is co-chair for the AFP Professional Mentoring Program and a board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. \n  \nSteve Conrad\, Founder and Director of Arizona Lindy Hop Society \nPresentation: The Transformative Power of Dance\nSteve Conrad will discuss how dance can be used to help heal trauma and build resilience in children and adults. Beginning with the Lindy Hop which was created and developed by the Black community in Harlem during the jazz age and going though decades of dance that coincided with transformative history through the 1930s\, 40s\, 50s and 60s in the United States and around the world. Specifically\, Steve will share the story of Wu\, a refugee from Vietnam who transformed her own life by learning how to ballroom dance. \nDance Class: Learn to Swing Dance\nJoin Steve Conrad of the Arizona Lindy Hop Society for a fun swing dance lesson. Swing dancing is a partner dance that originated in Harlem\, NY in the late 1920s and spread across the country and the world in the 1930s and 40s. It is enjoyed today all over the world by dancers of all ages and backgrounds. No partner needed. \nBio: Steve Conrad is the founder and director of the Arizona Lindy Hop Society which focuses on preserving and sharing American born dances from the jazz and rock and early roll eras of the 1920s through the early 1960s. He has been teaching Lindy Hop and swing dancing for more than 26 years and has traveled around the world teaching with tours across the US\, Europe\, and China. His first Lindy Hop teacher was the legendary Frankie Manning and Steve produced the Arizona Swing Jam workshop with Frankie in AZ for 14 years until Frankie’s passing at age 94. Steve was featured on ABC’s “The Bachelorette\,” HGTV’s “House Hunters\,” Arizona Highways TV\, and NBC’s “Little Big Shots: Forever Young.” Steve is also a certified ballroom dance teacher for Dancing Classrooms and was trained in New York by ballroom dance champion\, Pierre Dulaine\, who has been the subject of several films including “Mad Hot Ballroom\,” “Take the Lead\,” and “Dancing in Jaffa\,” all which address the transformative power of dance. Steve helped lead a pilot program for teaching ballroom dance to people experiencing homelessness at the Human Services Campus in Phoenix and has used dance as a healing modality for children in the foster care system by teaching for Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona. Steve was the director of the Ballroom dance program at Mesa Community College and is often a guest teacher at Scottsdale Community College and Xavier College Prep.  \n  \nDavid Olarte\, Founder and Co-director of Stilo Dance  \nPresentation: Social Performance: Strategies Towards Cultural Immersion and Interconnectivity \nDavid’s presentation highlights social dance as a strategy towards cultural immersion and community interconnectivity. As founder and director of Stilo Dance\, as well as Clinical Assistant Professor at ASU’s School of Music\, Dance\, and Theatre\, provides his artistic framework and lens towards building sustainable dance communities both in academia and in our local community. As the social fabric continues to be shaped by the participation of inter-generational identities\, David shares insight on the short and long term approach towards inclusive programming and re-imagining\nboth learning and performance spaces.  \nDance Class: Rhythmic Narratives in Afro-Latin Dance \nThis workshop will look at Afro-Latin rhythm and musicality\, specifically connecting clave with Afro-Latin movement. Connecting key patterns from the ground up provides a framework for engaging the roots and corporeal expressivity in Afro-Latin Social dance. \nBio: David Olarte (MFA\, MA) is an Afro-Latinx dancer (salsa\, mambo\, and contemporary couple dance) with over 20 years of choreography\, performance\, and instruction. As founder and co-director of Stilo Dance\, David has shared Stilo’s aesthetic interpretation of contemporary salsa\, which is rooted in Salsa on 2\, latin jazz\, and David Zambrano’s couple dancing technique. Stilo has graced the stage as finalists at the World Latin Dance Cup\, performing at Jacob’s Pillow’s Inside Out series\, and continues to perform in various salsa festivals and congresses. As Clinical Associate Professor for ASUs School of Music\, Dance\, and Theatre\, David centers Afro-Latinx context by creating new curriculum and programming\, such as Latin Sol Festival\, to support student learning\, performance\, and community engagement opportunities on campus. He’s currently pursuing a PHD in Theatre Performance of the Americas and researching where social dance lives within our communities.
