SUMMARY:Circa | Humans 2.0 (Scottsdale)
DESCRIPTION:Circa | Humans 2.0\nCreated by Yaron Lifschitz and the Circa Ensemble \n\nSunday\, Apr 13\, 2025\, 7:30 p.m. \n\nA symphony of acrobatics\, sound\, and light\, this is next-level circus by Circa.  \nTen bodies appear in a flash of light. They move in harmony for a fleeting moment and then descend into a sinuous trance. Towers grow and decay\, bodies leap and are caught as physical limits are pushed to their extreme. Can we ever find a perfect balance\, or is adapting to constant change the only way forward?  \nThis next chapter of Circa’s internationally acclaimed Humans is a tightly woven choreography of bodies\, pulsing with music by composer Ori Lichtik and revealed in Paul Jackson’s dramatic lighting. Created by circus visionary Yaron Lifschitz\, Humans 2.0 is intimate\, primal\, and deeply engaged with the challenge of being human.  \n“Humans 2.0 is a seriously sensational spectacle: as aesthetic as it is athletic\, as comedic as it is grave\, and all in all\, a visceral delight.” — The Conversation\, Australia  \n“… 70 minutes of wonder … perfectly timed\, perfectly executed\, perfectly staged.” — Courier Mail\, Australia  \n“… impressive and sophisticated contemporary New Circus at its best.” — Berlin Morning Post\, Germany    \nCirca acknowledges the assistance of the Australian Government through Creative Australia\, its principal arts investment and advisory body and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. \nHumans 2.0 is commissioned by The Mondavi Center\, UC Davis

SUMMARY:Cirque Mechanics: Pedal Punk (Chandler)
DESCRIPTION:Cirque Mechanics: Pedal Punk \nSteena Murray Mainstage \nApril 11 | 7:30 PM \nEnter the world of Pedal Punk\, a place where cycling is the way to escape a technology-obsessed society. In Pedal Punk\, we experience the excitement\, artistry and thrill that occurs when a wacky bike shop mechanic interacts with cyclists and bikes. He repairs more than broken pieces – he creates wondrous machines and inspires the cyclist in all of us to become a pedal punk. \nAbout Cirque Mechanics\nCirque Mechanics inspired by the modern circus\, finds its roots in the mechanical and its heart in the stories of American industrial ingenuity.  The shows\, imbedded in realism\, display a raw quality rarely found in modern circus.  Cirque Mechanics signature style is wrapped in acrobatics\, mechanical marvels and a bit of clowning around. This sensibility can be found in our five theatrical productions\, “Birdhouse Factory”\, “Boom Town”\, “Pedal Punk”\, “42ft” \, and “Zephyr” and we are excited to bring this unique approach to circus to “Cirque Mechanics Under Canvas” our brand new tent project that we launched in the summer of 2022. \nThis is entertainment infused with original apparatus and unique designs that can be found nowhere else.

As of 8/9/21\, Tempe Center for the Arts (TCA) remains committed to a health and safety conscious approach to minimizing the spread of COVID-19 in our community. The Delta variant of COVID-19 has proven quite troublesome. In response to the CDC’s new mask guidance\, the City of Tempe reinstituted a mask requirement for all individuals who enter city facilities\, including TCA\, regardless of vaccination status. We are currently assessing the implications of this requirement on events within TCA. We are also coordinating with our arts and culture colleagues in the Valley to plot a path forward through the uncertainty of the fall. We will be in contact again with an update as soon as we have new information. PERFORMERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR MASKS AT ALL TIMES\, EXCEPT WHEN PERFORMING ON STAGE OR PERFORMANCE AREAS.\n\nTCA HEALTH AND SAFETY – PATRON VACCINE POLICY. As of 9/7/21\, the City of Tempe is implementing the following COVID-19 policy: Patrons attending ticketed events at Tempe Center for the Arts are required to provide proof of full vaccination and are required to wear a mask. An official vaccination card or a digital photo are accepted forms of proof. We will be checking vaccination cards at the main entrance\, as well as at the Box Office. Patrons will be notified with a link to the TCA website for more information. (This does not apply to performers at this time.)\n\n\n\nEVENT CANCELLATION/CHANGE/REFUND POLICY: Please be aware that the City of Tempe has the power to change its policy or close TCA due to excessive numbers of Delta Variant/COVID-19 cases. If for any reason that the live performance must be cancelled or changed\, DDT will propose a contingency plan which may allow the festival to continue as a hybrid or fully virtual presentation. Depending on whether there is a full cancellation or change\, we can access and address refunding part or all of the participation fees at that time.

SUMMARY:BANDALOOP Vertical Dances on the UA MALL! (Tucson)
DESCRIPTION:BANDALOOP Vertical Dances on the UArizona Campus MALL! \nArizona Arts Live (formerly UA Presents) brings us BANDALOOP to dance vertically on the UArizona Mall buildings during Reading Days March 9-10 (no Spring Break this year). It’s outside! Wear your masks and stop the spread! \nMar 8\, 10a-1p & 3p-6p | Mar 9\, 1p-6p | Mar 10\, 10a-1p & 3p-6p | Mar 11\, 1p-6p \nBANDALOOP honors nature\, community\, and the human spirit through perspective-bending\, vertical dance. Using buildings on the UArizona Campus Mall as a dance floor on its side\, BANDALOOP creates a new and original performance suited for the times we are all living in. \nYouTube promo \nA pioneer in vertical performance\, BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality\, intricate choreography\, and climbing technology to turn the dance floor on its side. BANDALOOP’s site-reactive work has been presented worldwide in theaters and museums\, on skyscrapers\, bridges\, billboards\, and historical sites\, in atriums and convention halls\, in nature on cliffs\, and on screen. \nBANDALOOP will be performing continuously during the times listed above. These experiences are part of the March 9-10 Reading Days. The faculty senate approved a decision to replace the 2021 Spring Break with a series of Reading Days spread throughout the Spring 2021 semester. This adjustment to the academic calendar is a necessary component of our ongoing commitment to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the Tucson community and across the nation by reducing travel by faculty\, staff and students. \nABOUT BANDALOOP \nFounded by choreographer Amelia Rudolph and under the artistic direction of Melecio Estrella\, BANDALOOP re-imagines dance\, activates public spaces\, and inspires wonder and imagination in audiences around the world. The company trains dancers and youth at home and on tour\, and has performed for millions of people in over 22 countries in Europe\, Africa\, the Middle East\, the Americas\, and Asia\, and on screens in films and digital media. \nBANDALOOP is based in Oakland\, CA\, where the company creates work for its bi-annual home season and for touring performances presented around the globe each year.  Education and outreach are also an intrinsic part of the company’s mission. SUMMARY:Scorpius Dance Theatre presents Lisa Starry's A VAMPIRE TALE (PHX)
DESCRIPTION:Lisa Starry’s A VAMPIRE TALE\nScorpius Dance Theatre Presents 16th Anniversary Season of Annual Fall Haunt “A Vampire Tale” \nThis fall season\, from October 3-12\, 2019\, Scorpius Dance Theatre presents its popular production\, A Vampire Tale. Dubbed “’The ‘Nutcracker’ of Halloween\,” the yearly haunt is celebrating its 16th anniversary season. Longtime fans won’t want to miss this year’s show\, as the performance includes exciting new changes with the arrival of long-time Scorpius members stepping into the lead roles as King and Queen of the vampires. \nAccording to choreographer Lisa Starry\, “This year’s production of A Vampire Tale has an imaginative and exciting energy. Our new King\, Haydehn Tuipulotu\, and Queen\, Kalli Sparish\, have both been members of Scorpius for over 8 years. It’s thrilling to have fresh ideas come to our classic production as they step into our lead roles. Audiences can expect the same high octane\, high quality spectacle of Scorpius\, and with our new vampire royalty\, audiences can also expect several new surprises.” \nA Vampire Tale indulges audiences with all the trimmings: dark and sexy drama\, quirky and comedic episodes\, and visually stunning dance and aerial feats. This popular\, sell-out production pre-dates all of the vampire pop-culture and evolves annually to keep fans coming back for more. \nIn the plot line of A Vampire Tale a young woman is drawn to the dark side and finds herself lured into an assorted band of bloodsuckers. Frightened\, yet fascinated by their shadowy showmanship and seductive moves\, the girl struggles to avoid becoming part of their underworld when she becomes infatuated with the King vampire. \nA Vampire Tale showcases 17 talented dancers and aerialists. Haydehn Tuipulotu and Kalli Sparish premiere in their roles as the King and Queen of Darkness. Longtime Scorpius Dance Theatre dancer\, Martha Hernandez\, will return for the fourth year in the role of the Innocent. Making a guest appearance for the fourth year in a row\, Louis Farber will play the side-splitting narrator role of Strange Man. Farber is a well-known Valley actor and director\, as well as the Associate Artistic Director for Stray Cat Theatre. A Vampire Tale’s original soundtrack is composed by local musician Kristofer Hill. \nA Vampire Tale runs for two weekends: October 3-5 at 7:30 p.m. and October 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. The show is held at The Hardes Theatre at The Phoenix Theatre Company: 100 E. McDowell\, Rd.\, Phoenix AZ 85004.
