This unique setting will give audiences a taste of what is happening in Arizona’s dance scene. It is a perfect platform for dance companies to get exposure\, promote their work\, and to connect with others in the dance community and the general public. Each evening performance will showcase different dance artists including emerging artists as well as professional companies from all genres and styles of dance. \nThis year’s festival will feature special guest dance artist\, Christina Johnson\, a founding member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet and former principal dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem. Christina will perform a premiere solo as part of a new dance ensemble\, “Absoluta” under the direction of visionary and award-winning choreographer\, Anandha Ray. \nA post-performance “Q & A” will be facilitated by the Arizona Dance Coalition directly after the show. The “Q & A” will allow the audience to engage in lively conversation with the artistic directors and choreographers for insights in the creation of their dance works. \nArizona Dance Festival Master Classes will be offered before and during the week of the show. An Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary Ballet Master Class\, sponsored by the Arizona Dance Coalition will be taught by special guest dance artist\, Christina Johnson on Tuesday\, September 17\, 2024 at Dance Theater West from 6:00pm-7:30pm. This unique setting will give audiences a taste of what is happening in Arizona’s dance scene. It is a perfect platform for dance companies to get exposure\, promote their work\, and to connect with others in the dance community and the general public. Each evening performance will showcase different dance artists including emerging artists as well as professional companies from all genres and styles of dance. \nThis year’s festival will feature special guest dance artist\, Christina Johnson\, a founding member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet and former principal dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem. This unique setting will give audiences a taste of what is happening in Arizona’s dance scene. It is a perfect platform for dance companies to get exposure and promote their work\, to have a performance opportunity without having to incur the costs of producing a full concert\, to experiment with new work\, and to connect with others in the dance community. \n__________________________________________________________________ \nWHO CAN APPLY? – The Arizona Dance Festival is open to emerging dance artists and groups\, dance film makers\, pre-professional dance ensembles as well as professional dancers and companies from all genres and styles of dance. Applications are accepted from anyone from around the world\, but priority is given to Arizona dance artists and companies first. \nGUIDELINES – Dance works and films will be chosen through an unbiased adjudication process\, with attention given to artistry\, professionalism\, diversity\, creativity and dynamic performance. The performance is limited up to 10 minutes or less per dance. Dance works must not have been performed within a 30 mile radius from the event venue and not less than one month prior to the festival dates. THIS FESTIVAL IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT WHICH APPEALS TO A WIDE AUDIENCE. DANCE WORKS MUST BE APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES. \nAUDITION APPLICATION FEE – There is a non-refundable application fee of $25 for the first submission and $15 per additional submissions. \nPARTICIPATION FEES (IF SELECTED): \nSTAGE PERFORMANCE – If selected to perform\, participants must pay a participation fee per dance/per night of $25 (solo)\, $50 (duets)\, $75 (3-5 dancers) and $100 (6 or more dancers). \nDANCE FILM – If selected\, the participation fee is $25 per dance film/per night. \nThe participation fee will help cover expenses related to facility rental\, production\, tech staff and publicity. \nGRANTS – If awarded any grants\, we will waive the participation fee\, and allocate a stipend to participants selected to perform. With the full range of the dancers’ virtuosity on display\, the evening’s works are inspired by an array of styles\, from ballet to flamenco and classical music to Spanish guitar\, offering the extraordinary opportunity to experience the thrill of music and dance live on stage.  \n“Audiences have a chance to enter into Heginbotham’s entertaining universe\, and they shouldn’t miss it.” — The New Yorker  \nDance Heginbotham  \nDance Heginbotham (DH) is a New York-based contemporary dance company committed to supporting\, producing\, and sustaining the work of choreographer John Heginbotham. With an emphasis on collaboration\, DH enriches national and international communities with its unique blend of inventive\, thoughtful\, and rigorous dance theater works.   \nDH had its world premiere in 2012 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and has since been presented by Arts Brookfield\, Baryshnikov Arts Center\, Brooklyn Academy of Music\, Carolina Performing Arts\, Duke Performances\, Harkness Dance Festival\, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival\, The Joyce Theater\, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, and Vail International Dance Festival\, among others.   \nJohn Heginbotham\, Choreographer  \nOriginally from Anchorage\, Alaska\, John Heginbotham graduated from The Juilliard School in 1993\, and was a member of Mark Morris Dance Group (1998–2012). In 2011\, he founded Dance Heginbotham\, a New York-based contemporary dance company that has toured nationally and internationally. Heginbotham is a recipient of the 2018 Guggenheim Fellowship and the 2014 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award.  \nSought after as a freelance choreographer\, Heginbotham’s projects include RACECAR for The Washington Ballet (2019); the Tony Award®-winning revival of Oklahoma!\, directed by Daniel Fish (Bard Summerscape\, 2015; St.Ann’s Warehouse\, 2018; Broadway\, 2019; National Tour\, 2021/22; Young Vic London\, 2022); and John Adams’s Girls of the Golden West\, directed by Peter Sellars (San Francisco Opera\, 2017; Dutch National Opera\, 2019). Heginbotham is the director of the Dartmouth Dance Ensemble and is a founding teacher of Dance for PD®\, an ongoing collaboration between the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group.

Beautiful costumes\, undulating arms\, fiery footwork\, intricate Spanish guitar\, and soul-stirring vocals come together to deliver an unforgettable show. \nChacón\, who has more than 15 years of international performing and production experience\, founded Inspiración Flamenca (now known as Julia Chacón Flamenco Theatre) in 2008 with the mission of celebrating the community nature of flamenco and promoting cultural understanding through this rich and complex art.
