SUMMARY:Circa | Humans 2.0 (Scottsdale)
DESCRIPTION:Circa | Humans 2.0\nCreated by Yaron Lifschitz and the Circa Ensemble \n\nSunday\, Apr 13\, 2025\, 7:30 p.m. \n\nA symphony of acrobatics\, sound\, and light\, this is next-level circus by Circa.  \nTen bodies appear in a flash of light. They move in harmony for a fleeting moment and then descend into a sinuous trance. Towers grow and decay\, bodies leap and are caught as physical limits are pushed to their extreme. Can we ever find a perfect balance\, or is adapting to constant change the only way forward?  \nThis next chapter of Circa’s internationally acclaimed Humans is a tightly woven choreography of bodies\, pulsing with music by composer Ori Lichtik and revealed in Paul Jackson’s dramatic lighting. Created by circus visionary Yaron Lifschitz\, Humans 2.0 is intimate\, primal\, and deeply engaged with the challenge of being human.  \n“Humans 2.0 is a seriously sensational spectacle: as aesthetic as it is athletic\, as comedic as it is grave\, and all in all\, a visceral delight.” — The Conversation\, Australia  \n“… 70 minutes of wonder … perfectly timed\, perfectly executed\, perfectly staged.” — Courier Mail\, Australia  \n“… impressive and sophisticated contemporary New Circus at its best.” — Berlin Morning Post\, Germany    \nCirca acknowledges the assistance of the Australian Government through Creative Australia\, its principal arts investment and advisory body and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. \nHumans 2.0 is commissioned by The Mondavi Center\, UC Davis

SUMMARY:ASU Dance presents Emerging Artists II: ENTROPY (Tempe)
DESCRIPTION:Emerging Artists II: ENTROPY\n\nNovember 15-17\, 2024 \n\n7:30 p.m. Nov. 15-16\n2 p.m. Nov. 17 \nGalvin Playhouse Theatre 51 E. 10th St. Tempe AZ 85281 \n$10-$20 \n“The Dao gives birth to One. One gives birth to Two. Two give birth to Three. Three gives birth to all things.” –Chapter 42 of the Tao Te Ching \nENTROPY fuses the philosophies of Tibetan Buddhism and Daoism\, posthumanism theory\, and feminist methodologies to explore humanity’s trajectories throughout history. By navigating primal life stages\, the quest for power\, and the dissolution of identity across cultures and time\, Entropy challenges fixed notions of humanity\, self\, gender\, and technology. It embodies both ancient traditions and posthuman anxieties\, questioning the boundaries of the human form and existence. The project critically engages with the intersection of spirituality\, technology\, and power\, while exploring impermanence\, the evolving relationship between humans and non-humans\, and the intersectionality of gender and power dynamics. \nEmerging Artists II: ENTROPY presents original choreographic and visual work by third-year MFA graduate student Valkyrie Yao. This showcase highlights interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary projects that weave together stage performance\, film and installation\, illuminated by philosophical and theoretical research. Over the course of nearly three years\, Valkyrie’s research has evolved through intensive exploration\, focusing on themes such as posthumanism\, identity\, and the intersection of spirituality\, technology and human consciousness. By transforming abstract inquiries from reality into artistic practice\, this project challenges traditional boundaries and encourages reflection on humanity’s role within a larger\, interconnected existence. \nContent transparency: This project includes both performing and visual arts. Performing arts works involve heavy subject matter with dark imagery and adult content. Visual arts works may invite viewer participation. Viewers will be asked to review and acknowledge the content reminder prior to attending. \nPlease note:  Viewers are invited to arrive 30 minutes before the concert starts to experience the visual arts exhibition in the theatre lobby. \nTickets must be purchased in advance at the Herberger Institute Box Office. There will be no in-person sales at the event. Guests who do not have a ticket at the door will be directed to purchase them online. \nNotice to Herberger Institute Faculty\, Staff\, Students and Mirabella Residents: \nEligible HIDA faculty\, staff and students may redeem their complimentary ticket(s) through the box office website. Students are eligible for one complimentary ticket; faculty and staff are eligible for two tickets. Click the ‘Buy Tickets’ button\, select the desired number of tickets\, then enter and apply your 10-digit ASU ID as the promo code at checkout.
