Park is a seasoned leader with a diverse background in arts administration\, equitable creative placemaking\, grantmaking\, and cultural research. Previously she had served as the Associate Director at the Studio for Creativity\, Place\, and Equitable Communities at Arizona State University\, working on programs and research that highlight the pivotal role of arts and culture in community wellbeing and development. Beginning her career as a marketing professional\, she quickly transitioned to fundraising after discovering her true vocation was connecting donors to their passion. Jami holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Arizona State University. She has choreographed site-specific works for various public spaces and collaborated with local companies\, schools\, and universities. As the Managing Director of the BlakTinx Dance Festival\, now in its 7th year\, Liliana produces an annual event celebrating Black and Latinx choreographers. She also teaches a weekly dance class\, served on the Artlink Artists Council\, and actively participates in local arts initiatives. \nLiliana’s commitment to the arts has earned her accolades such as the 2015 Phoenix Mayor’s Arts Award and recognition as one of PHX Magazine’s “40 Under 40.” She has participated in Jacob’s Pillow’s National Presenters Forum\, was a 2021 National Latinos Arts and Culture Institute fellow\, and presented her work at Cornell University. Liliana is also the recipient of the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture’s “Artists-to-Work” grant\, supporting her continued growth as an artist. \nPresentation: Learn About BlakTinx Dance Festival  \nJoin Liliana Gomez\, Managing Director of BlakTinx Dance Festival in Phoenix and a member of Latina Dance Project\, the nonprofit that produces the festival. BlakTinx Dance Festival celebrates the work of Black and Latine choreographers in Arizona while also featuring guest artists from California\, where the festival first began. The festival brings together both established and emerging artists\, creating a space for them to share their work. Discover what makes BlakTinx more than just a performance—it’s a dance concert\, a series of dance classes\, a Q&A session\, and a vibrant community gathering\, Café y Conchas! Learn how the festival started and how it’s organized. The presentation will also highlight past BlakTinx presenters who have graced Phoenix stages\, L. Alexander Patrick-Rolando and Steven Redondo\, who will share how the festival has shaped their work and careers. The session will conclude with a brief Q&A\, offering insights into the festival’s impact. \n__________________________________________________ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Lolita” Elizabeth Zuniga-Blore\, Artistic Director and Co-Choreographer\, Hoorvash Dance Company \nBio: “Lolita” Elizabeth Zuniga-Blore is a native Texan. She began her training as a young girl in San Antonio where she studied and performed Mexican Folklorico\, Spanish classical dance\, flamenco\, ballet\, jazz and other progressive dance forms. \nShe performed with a variety of dance groups which paved the way for her to be the lead dancer and eventually the choreographer for internationally acclaimed celebrity and performer\, “Charo.” Elizabeth performed on television as well as shows in Las Vegas\, Reno\, Atlantic City\, Hawaii and on luxury cruise lines. \nElizabeth studied with José Molina\, La Chiqui\, Timo Lozano\, Susanna Di Palma and Matilda Coral\, among many others. While living in Minnesota\, she was a member of Susanna Di Palma’s company\, Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theater\, and was part o the studio’s teaching staff. She lectured and demonstrated dance forms for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Cultural Partners program an the Young Audiences of Minnesota series. She also received a grant rom the Jerome Foundation. During this period\, Elizabeth was honored to be featured as a classical Spanish dancer in a special solo performance with the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra. She  additionally performed as a dancer in the opera Carmen. \nSince moving to Arizona\, Elizabeth has performed with various groups and has taught or the Maricopa Community Colleges\, School of Ballet Arizona\, and Arizona School for the Arts. She has also taught numerous workshops and classes at dance studios. \nElizabeth currently serves as the Artistic Director\, co-choreographer and collaborator with Heidi Javaheri Lisherness’ Hoorvash Dance Company. \nPresentation: Origins of Flamenco and Spanish Dance \nLearn and experience the influence of other country’s stylization of Flamenco and Spanish Dance. DESCRIPTION:Sedona Dance Project Presents Sedona Dance Festival: A Celebration of Artists and Diversity in Movement \nSedona Dance Project is proud to announce the highly anticipated Sedona Dance Festival\, a vibrant showcase of dance talent from across Arizona. This exhilarating event will take place on April 18 and 19\, 2024\, at the picturesque Verde Valley School in the Village of Oak Creek\, located at 3511 Verde Valley School Rd\, Sedona. \nEnjoy a full evening celebrating the Arts\, starting with a Piano bar and art gallery opening at 6:00 PM.  The Arizona Dance Coalition will host pre-show reception with light refreshments. Seating for the dance performances begins at 6:30 PM\, with the shows kicking off promptly at 7:00 PM. \nThe Sedona Dance Festival promises two evenings filled with captivating performances from eight esteemed dance companies\, each bringing their unique flair to the stage. DESCRIPTION:TMY After Hours Tablao Flamenco at EXO Bar Tucson\nJoin us for this special edition of Tablao Flamenco presented by Tucson Meet Yourself (TMY) featuring Misael Barraza\, Olivia Rojas\, Mele & Jason Martinez with SPECIAL GUESTS Nevarez Encinias and Eloy Gonzales. This event closes the annual largest ‘folklife festival’ in Arizona held in Downtown Tucson October 11-13\, Friday-Sunday. TMY information here. \nSHOW #1 – Doors open – 5:30 pm for Performance – 6-7 pm \nSHOW #2 – Doors open – 7:30 pm for Performance – 8-9 pm \nPLEASE NOTE: Reservations will only be held until showtime\, then released to waiting list audience. \nTablao Flamenco is an intimate and traditional setting for presenting the interaction of cante (song)\, baile (dance)\, and toque (guitar). Performing on a percussive wood platform called a tablao (tablado)\, artists often improvise music and movement to establish new styles and expressions. Tablao is one of the most important forms of flamenco presentation in Spain and beyond\, a place to celebrate both experimentation and cultural heritage. Flamenco Tucsonense cultivates the art form here in Tucson to share a unique voice in the flamenco world. \nAbout the ARTISTS: \nNevarez Encinias (dancer) has trained in flamenco since his early childhood. He began studying pre-professionally at the Conservatory of Flamenco Arts in Albuquerque\, New Mexico\, under the guidance of his grandmother Eva\, father Joaquín\, and aunt Marisol Encinias. Nevarez became an apprentice dancer in Yjastros: the American Flamenco Repertory Company in 2006. He was promoted to Corps dancer in 2014 and to Soloist dancer in 2017. In 2014\, Nevarez received his BA in History of Art from Yale University\, and in 2018\, he received a Master of Fine Arts in Dance degree from the University of New Mexico. He has studied with a wide range of internationally-acclaimed Spanish dance artists\, including Antonio Canales\, Olga Pericet\, Jesús Carmona\, Gala Vivancos\, Daniel Doña\, Mercedes Ruiz\, Pedro Córdoba\, and Rafael Estévez and Valeriano Paños. Nevarez’s MFA thesis concert\, Sensaciones y emociones\, was presented at the University of New Mexico in September 2017. He currently teaches both flamenco and Modern Dance in the University of New Mexico’s Dance Program\, as well as at the Conservatory of Flamenco Arts. \nEloy Gonzales (guitarra) began his study of Flamenco at Tierra Adentro de Nuevo México charter school in 2010 and was introduced to flamenco by American Flamenco Repertory Co. dancers Alisa Alba and Elena Osuna and company guitarist Mario Febres. Receiving a scholarship to the National Institute of Flamenco’s Conservatory of Flamenco Arts\, he studied dance under Joaquin and Marisol Encinias and guitar under Ricardo Anglada. Eloy has since dedicated himself to the study of Flamenco guitar while also studying music at the University of New Mexico. He has performed nationally in theaters and festivals such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Music in the Park festival in Atlanta\, Georgia. Eloy continues his musical study with Calvin Hazen and Mario Febres. \nMisael Barraza (guitarra) – Winner of numerous international guitar competitions\, Misael is from Sonora\, Mexico and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Arizona. \nOlivia Rojas (cante) – From El Paso\, Olivia is the Co-Director of Flamenco Por La Vida; she has studied music for over 15 years and is Arizona’s premiere flamenco singer. \nJason Martinez (cajon/baile) – From Albuquerque\, New Mexico\, an American hub of flamenco art\, Jason has studied percussion and dance for more than 20 years. He was an original member of Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company\, and teaches flamenco in Tucson. \nMelani “Mele” Martinez (baile) – With more than 35 years of dance training\, Mele is a Tucson native and nationally recognized flamenco artist.
