SUMMARY:Convergence Ballet Fall Pop-up (Phoenix)
DESCRIPTION:Join Convergence Ballet for a FREE fall pop-up performance featuring stunning choreography by Kevin Jenkins\, a Bob Fosse inspired classic and excerpts from The Sleeping Beauty. It is an evening showcasing classical and contemporary ballet\, and theatre jazz paying homage to one of Broadway’s best. This FREE pop-up performance will take place Saturday\, Oct. 7th from 6:00 – 7:00pm in the Pavilion at the Herberger Theater Center. \nKevin Jenkins will be setting his piece Pastoral Symphony on Convergence company members to create themes and motifs that highlight the classical vocabulary as well as the moving formations through Beethoven’s score of the same name. An original piece by Lainie Seretis will also be featured that explores the nature of the seasons of life and the universal themes many can relate to. A Cabaret classic\, Mein Herr will showcase company members letting their hair down and kicking up their heels. And to round out the evening variations from The Sleeping Beauty will be performed.

DESCRIPTION:Films.Dance is Jacob Jonas The Company’s global platform and creative studio for dance. Through non-traditional collaborations across cultures and continents\, Films.Dance produces and presents original film works through the intersection of dance\, music\, choreography\, and fashion. \nHow it works \nJacob Jonas The Company (JJTC) creatively directs and produces the work on Films.Dance\, focusing on themes of celebrating the human spirit; strong relationships to nature; artistic mediums responding to each other through process and result; illustrating diversity in age\, culture\, background\, race\, ability\, and sexuality\, and capturing authentic expression. \nThe series is centered around non-traditional collaborations\, where JJTC pairs artists who have never worked together and who often live in opposite corners of the world. For example\, a Montreal-based choreographer worked with a dancer in Shanghai and a composer in London. Two self-taught dancers in Nigeria were in a process with a New York City-based choreographer to a score by a Los Angeles musician. Dance’s literacy-based High Flyin’ Arts summer camp allows students to explore the dramatic and visual arts of aerial low flying trapeze\, creative dance\, and various forms of artwork. This year’s camp is based on the children’s story Dream Animals: A Bedtime Story by Emilie Winifield Martin.\n\n\n\nThis camp runs weekdays from May 30th through June 9th from 9am to 1pm.

SUMMARY:Convergence Ballet and Ballet Theatre of Phoenix Spring Performance (Phoenix)
DESCRIPTION:Join Convergence Ballet and Ballet Theatre of Phoenix for their Spring Performance\, May 28th\, 11am and 3pm at Arcadia High School. \nThe Spring performance features the 2nd Act of “Giselle\,” one of the most beloved scenes in ballet\, famous for its floating white spirits (Willis) performing with elegant precision. The recital also will feature a piece entitled “La Mer” portrayed by the youngest members of Ballet Theatre of Phoenix\, who will conjure images of an under water world filled with creatures of the sea. Rounding out the performance is Lander’s charming “Etudes” as dancers appear in a classroom and evolve into ever more challenging movement to delight the audience. \n \nGeneral admission seating. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and has since been presented by Arts Brookfield\, Baryshnikov Arts Center\, Brooklyn Academy of Music\, Carolina Performing Arts\, Duke Performances\, Harkness Dance Festival\, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival\, The Joyce Theater\, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, and Vail International Dance Festival\, among others.   \nJohn Heginbotham\, Choreographer  \nOriginally from Anchorage\, Alaska\, John Heginbotham graduated from The Juilliard School in 1993\, and was a member of Mark Morris Dance Group (1998–2012). In 2011\, he founded Dance Heginbotham\, a New York-based contemporary dance company that has toured nationally and internationally. Heginbotham is a recipient of the 2018 Guggenheim Fellowship and the 2014 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award.  \nSought after as a freelance choreographer\, Heginbotham’s projects include RACECAR for The Washington Ballet (2019); the Tony Award®-winning revival of Oklahoma!\, directed by Daniel Fish (Bard Summerscape\, 2015; St.Ann’s Warehouse\, 2018; Broadway\, 2019; National Tour\, 2021/22; Young Vic London\, 2022); and John Adams’s Girls of the Golden West\, directed by Peter Sellars (San Francisco Opera\, 2017; Dutch National Opera\, 2019). Heginbotham is the director of the Dartmouth Dance Ensemble and is a founding teacher of Dance for PD®\, an ongoing collaboration between the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group.

Since its inception in 2007\, the company has held its place at the forefront of the concert dance world with a compelling style that “suggests invention\, attitude\, and urban edge” (The Boston Globe). Widely acclaimed for its “peerless dancers” who “can do it all from hip-hop to ballet” (LA Dance Chronicle)\, the company is composed of artists who received their training at some of the finest schools throughout the world\, and its smashing repertory includes the works of renowned contemporary choreographers like Kyle Abraham\, Ohad Naharin\, Hofesh Shechter\, Victor Quijada\, Arthur Pita\, Fernando Magadan\, and Micaela Taylor. This combination of superb dancers and accomplished choreographers led the Los Angeles Times to describe BODYTRAFFIC as “one of the most talked about companies—not just in LA\, but nationwide.”  \nThe company’s trajectory from Los Angeles to nationwide recognition is notable in its 2016 Hollywood Bowl debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and in its current company-in-residence status at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. Beyond Los Angeles\, the company has captured the attention of major presenters at prestigious venues throughout the United States.
