SUMMARY:National Ballroom Dance Week September 16-25\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:National Ballroom Dance Week September 16-25\nDancers\, contact the chapter nearest you for details on events scheduled to celebrate NBDW™! See the “Find a Chapter” page for a list of Chapters by state. Click on chapter name for an option to email them directly or visit their website. \nRight now you may be asking yourself\, “Why should we do anything special for NBDW™?” \nThere are two reasons: first is to share with others what we enjoy so much –ballroom dancing; second\, this is an occasion where we cannot only celebrate\, but promote dancing in general and USA Dance in particular. It is a great opportunity to increase membership and participation in dancing in your community. \nWe encourage chapters who have never done anything special to recognize this week by trying just one new thing. It could be a raffle\, free passes to future dances\, or free admission for anyone who brings a first-time guest\, to mention a few. Many chapters go “all out” to celebrate with a dance every night\, often with each offering a different theme. Chapters hold dances in malls\, community centers\, and parks – they advertise or arrange to have feature articles written in the local paper about ballroom dancing. They offer free lessons\, and do demonstrations in nursing homes\, schools\, festivals and other public venues. \nFilms like “Mad Hot Ballroom” and “Shall We Dance” were extremely popular. ABC broadcast of “Dancing With The Stars” has been a huge hit sparking lots of interest in learning to dance\, particularly with the 18-49 age group. Start now\, use the current media attention as a springboard for promoting ballroom dancing in your community. \nIntegrating dance films and TV shows into the week-long celebration is an interesting way to promote dancing in your area. \nHere’s to celebration and happy dancing feet.

SUMMARY:cancelled - Tucson Tango Festival (Casino Del Sol Resort)
DESCRIPTION:cancelled – Tucson Tango Festival returns to Casino Del Sol for its 11th Tango Fest! \nA stellar cast of instructors\, performers and DJs are scheduled to excite the Argentine Tango community visiting Tucson from across this country and from countries around the globe where people TANGO! The ballroom is spacious\, high ceilings and very elegant with beautiful hardwood flooring owned by the Tucson Tango Festival. \n  \nThis year’s festival will offer three progressive classes every day. Attendees will not need to pre-sign up. Just drop in. Each session will offer an ‘all levels’ class\, an intermediate class\, and an advanced class. Teachers will rotate through the levels so that they can be accessible to more students. \nTUCSON TANGO FESTIVAL WORLD-CLASS INSTRUCTORS \nSofia Saborido & Pablo Inza will focus on connection – ‘It’s All About The Embrace.’ Sofia has a extensive background in theatre\, ballet\, modern and jazz dance. The deep musicality and quality of movement in her dancing is based on a refined and sensitive connection. Being the great granddaughter of Enrique Saborido\, a legendary dancer\, musician and composer of tangos like La Morocha\, Felicia and others\, she was literally born with tango in her veins. In 2006 she won the fourth place in the tango championship of Buenos Aires. Since then she dedicates her time on teaching and performing mainly in Europe but also in United States and Asia. Frequently invited to some of the largest tango festivals in Europe and North America\, Pablo has been teaching and performing around the world since 1999. An excellent teacher with a great capacity for analysis and an innate sense of musicality\, Pablo’s classes are popular amongst dancers of all levels. \nLiz and Yannick Vanhove started dancing Tango together when they were teenagers. In 2012 they won the European championship in the category Tango Salon and became vice-champions of Tango Escenario. They were finalists at both the World Championship and the Metropolitan Championship in Buenos Aires for Tango Salon. The couple has performed at the most famous milongas in Buenos Aires: Sunderland Club\, Canning\, La Baldosa\, Villa Malcolm\, La Confiteria Ideal\, El Beso and many more. They have been guest-dancers at the legendary Esquina Homero Manzi for the show “Un par de tangos\,” as well as in Teatro Alvear on Corrientes with the orchestra Colectivo Tango. Liz and Yannick have taught classes in Buenos Aires at the Escuela Argentina de Tango (NEAT) in the Galerias Pacifico\, at the Estudio Mario Morales in San Telmo and at the Bella Vista Tango Club in San Miguel. \nPaloma and Maximiliano inspire students to enjoy the embrace and love for tango\, promoting the connection and improvisation between couples. This award-winning couple with 20 years performing\, competing and teaching experience\, has participated in festivals and workshops in Europe\, South America\, North America and Asia. Awards: 1st place World Tango Championship TAFISA 2008 (Busan\, South Korea)\, 2nd place World Tango Championship 2007 (BA\, Argentine)\, 6 finals World Tango Championship (BA\, Argentine)\, and several 1st places in national competitions in Chile between 2001 and 2006. \n  \nOscar Casas and Marie Roach. Oscar has a distinct style both in his dance and his teaching. He is very milonguero\, and is highly respected by the old guard in the milongas of BA. He also is extremely popular with his students\, who are impressed by his teaching style. He teaches with energy and humor\, emphasizing concepts\, specializing in improvisation always interpreting the music and respecting the character of the different orchestras. He is especially interested in the dynamics and cadencia of the dance. Everything he teaches is applicable to crowded milongas. Marie Riolo Roach has been dancing since the age of 8. Alex is best known for his ability to play deeply emotional\, traditional Flamenco while venturing into Latin music\, Jazz\, and other genres with ease. His deep musical and cultural knowledge allows him to blend the sounds and rhythms of southern Spain with Latin and contemporary grooves. Original songs and cover arrangements give the impression he has been affected by everyone from puro Flamenco phenom Tomatito and rumba master Jesse Cook to Brazilian legend Luiz Bonfa\, Gypsy Jazz pioneer Django Reinhardt\, and progressive metal legend Tosin Abasi. Alex trained and studied Flamenco music\, guitar\, and culture with Gaetano in Arizona\, and master guitarist and technician Gerardo Núñez in Sanlúcar de Barrameda\, in the heart of Andalucía in southern Spain. With your support\, we can make the program accessible and affordable for Arizona’s children and youth. \n          With the current trends of diminishing public funding for sports and arts programs\, and the inability of many parents to privately afford those\, especially in low-income\, at risk school communities\, children and youth remain negatively impacted and are deprived of participating and experiencing the benefits of those opportunities. This also includes the students with special needs and autism\, who currently have no such opportunities.\n        Just for the last school year\, your generous support made ballroom dance accessible to over 100 low-income students at Create Academy.\n       This school year we are partnering with Arizona Autism Charter Schools serving 200+ students in grades KG-12 to deliver a school-wide ballroom dance program as part of their school curriculum in support of their education. 200+ students with autism with all range of abilities receive 10 ballroom dance lessons daily from our top-rated\, world-class ballroom dance professionals year-round. This is an unprecedented\, pioneer effort in the US! We are bringing the research and the benefits of ballroom dance to the students with autism at their school\, in their classrooms!\n          Your sponsorship will directly support the critical need to increase the number of children in Arizona who engage in ballroom dance as a physical activity to build life-long healthy habits. We hope you will consider sponsoring at the Masquerade Ball GALA and join our efforts to help shape a generation of healthy and thriving children and youth!\n          DanceSport Education is an Arizona\, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization and contributions are tax-deductible.\n\nTickets: $55 ages 4-16; $100-170 adults
