At the center of this virtual presentation is a recreation of Arnie Zane‘s Continuous Replay\, an iconic work which was originally a duet and a solo. In 1991\, three years after Arnie’s passing at the height of the AIDS pandemic\, Bill T. Jones made Arnie’s choreography into a full company work. Continuous Replay has connected generations of company members and was\, for most of them\, the only way to know Arnie. The diverse cast of performers spanning four decades—including Arthur Aviles\, Sean Curran\, Odile Reine-Adelaide\, Stefanie Batten Bland\, Rosalynde LeBlanc\, Heidi Latsky\, Jenna Riegel\, and many others—filmed themselves while in isolation across four continents. The original soundtrack is created by composer John Oswald and editing of the videos was done by Associate Artistic Director Janet Wong. \nThe live-streamed fundraiser event on Nov 19 will benefit three remarkable organizations – Black Strategy Fund\, The Brotherhood SisterSol\, and Buy From A Black Woman. The evening begins with a conversation between Bill T. Jones and Anthony D. Romero\, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)\, and will be joined by the directors of the three organizations\, Patrisse Cullors\, Khary Lazarre-White\, and Nikki Porcher. The event will culminate with the premiere of Continuous Replay: Come Together. 100% of the donation collected from now until Nov 27 through this event will go to the three organizations. \nSpecial thanks to our live stream partners: American Dance Festival\, ASU Gammage\, UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance & The University of the Arts

SUMMARY:National Ballroom Dance Week Sept 18-27
DESCRIPTION:National Ballroom Dance Week Sept 18-27\nMake sure to check what your town’s current COVID-19 guidelines are regarding group gatherings and physical distancing. The dance studios that are open must have rules/policies in place that are always subject to change. Inquire before attending. \nDancers\, contact the chapter nearest you for details on events scheduled to celebrate NBDW™! See the “Find a Chapter” page for a list of Chapters by state. Click on chapter name for an option to email them directly or visit their website. \nRight now you may be asking yourself\, “Why should we do anything special for NBDW™?” \nThere are two reasons: first is to share with others what we enjoy so much –ballroom dancing; second\, this is an occasion where we cannot only celebrate\, but promote dancing in general and USA Dance in particular. It is a great opportunity to increase membership and participation in dancing in your community. \nWe encourage chapters who have never done anything special to recognize this week by trying just one new thing. It could be a raffle\, free passes to future dances\, or free admission for anyone who brings a first-time guest\, to mention a few. Many chapters go “all out” to celebrate with a dance every night\, often with each offering a different theme. Chapters hold dances in malls\, community centers\, and parks – they advertise or arrange to have feature articles written in the local paper about ballroom dancing. They offer free lessons\, and do demonstrations in nursing homes\, schools\, festivals and other public venues. \nFilms like “Mad Hot Ballroom” and “Shall We Dance” were extremely popular. ABC broadcast of “Dancing With The Stars” has been a huge hit sparking lots of interest in learning to dance\, particularly with the 18-49 age group. Start now\, use the current media attention as a springboard for promoting ballroom dancing in your community. \nIntegrating dance films and TV shows into the week-long celebration is an interesting way to promote dancing in your area. \n\nHere’s to celebration and happy dancing feet.
