SUMMARY:Jacob Jonas The Company
DESCRIPTION:Returning to Arizona with a new work commissioned by Scottsdale Arts\, Jacob Jonas The Company brings its cinematic dance approach to Nature Sounds while the IV Drips\, the second work in its Keeping Score trilogy. The series is choreographer Jacob Jonas’s first post-cancer work. Inspired by Bessel van der Kolk’s book The Body Keeps the Score\, the trilogy is a journey to understanding illness. With original music composed by Imogen Heap\, Nature Sounds while the IV Drips explores themes of endurance and survival through sustained hospital stays\, where a patient is alone with their thoughts while undergoing chemotherapy. JJTC is known for blending contemporary dance\, acrobatics\, and street dance influences. \nAbout the Company \nJacob Jonas The Company (JJTC) is a Los Angeles-based creative company that intersects dance across mediums to make original works and initiate nontraditional collaborations. JJTC has created more than 100 original works for the stage and the camera. Presentations in live performance include Kennedy Center\, Hollywood Bowl\, Lincoln Center\, Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts\, Lensic Performing Arts Center\, and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. SUMMARY:RUBBERBAND "Ever So Slightly" (Tempe)
DESCRIPTION:RUBBERBAND is back\, with ten dancer-athletes in top form. Simultaneously delivering delicacy\, brutality\, finesse\, and high-voltage action\, the choreographer conveys all the energy contained in urgency\, revolt\, chaos\, and flight. \nVictor Quijada’s RUBBERBAND is back\, with ten dancer-athletes in top form. SUMMARY:Ballet Hispánico
DESCRIPTION:Bizet’s Carmen has seen countless interpretations over the past 150 years\, but never one like this! Acclaimed choreographer Gustavo Ramírez Sansano brings this full-length ballet to the stage\, inspired by tauromaquia—the art of bullfighting—breathing a modern life into the legendary opera character through Ballet Hispánico’s electrifying CARMEN.maquia. Carmen has become a cultural icon\, inspiring generations of composers\, choreographers\, and writers to attempt to capture her elusive and alluring nature. One of today’s most sought-after choreographers\, Sansano’s quintessential ballet invigorates this timeless tale with an unrelenting energy that leaves you breathless. Highly original and full of explosive movement\, CARMEN.maquia is a bold reimagining of this classic story. \nJoin us for a post-show discussion following the performance. \n“Ramírez’s movement is refreshingly unique. … Ballet Hispanico’s ensemble plays many parts and maneuvers through humorous and nuanced moments with ease and clarity.” — Broadway World \nAbout the Company \nBallet Hispánico was founded on the principle that everyone deserves dance\, quality dance training\, and innovative performances. SUMMARY:A Celebration of Naomi Jackson
DESCRIPTION:Please join us to celebrate the life and work of Naomi Jackson. Through publications\, presentations and community engagement\, she aimed to build a more inclusive and equitable field. She directed two international conferences\, one around dance and human rights and one about dance and Jewishness. Her impact was far reaching. Please RSVP at the event link and share any memories you have with Jackson. \nSaturday\, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. \nMargaret Gisolo Dance Theatre (Bulldog Hall 132)\n611 E. Orange St.
