SUMMARY:Center Dance Ensemble Love Stories PHX
DESCRIPTION:Center Dance Ensemble brings a fascinating look at the depth of love with LOVE STORIES.  The performance include a powerful retelling of La Llorona (Weeping Woman) the Mexican folktale of a mother who lost her children and spends eternity searching for them. \n“The story of La Llorona is a fascinating one. It is the retelling of the Greek myth of the tragic love of Jason and Medea but set in Mexico. A wife is betrayed and in her grief and anguish she drowns her two children—and so the story goes that if you listen carefully\, you can hear her wailing as she searches for them by the river banks. Passionate love\, desperation from loss\, the longing\, the highs and the lows that love can bring to us. To express those emotions through movement is truly powerful and I look forward to sharing these stories of love with our audiences.” – Frances Cohen\, Artistic Director \nThe performances will also include the premiere of Sonota in Dance\, choreographed by Artistic Director Frances Cohen\, to a new musical composition by Eric Sandmeyer\, and performed by musicians from the Arizona Pro Arte Orchestra. In addition\, Diane McNeal Hunt will premiere her new piece Touch\, exploring the connections between one human to another\, and how a single touch can initiate a journey. \n \nThursday-Saturday 7:30 pm\, Sunday 2 pm. \nLunch Time Dance Theater Performances will be held March 2 & 3 at 12:10 pm. Tickets are $6; bring or buy lunch.

SUMMARY:ADC at Arts Congress PHX
DESCRIPTION:The Arizona Dance Coalition is once again sponsoring the Arizona Arts Congress and we ask that you participate by sharing your dance arts contributions with us if you are not attending. We will prepare a handout with responses and share with all the district representatives in AZ. Also\, we invite you to share with us your expectations from their leadership. You voted for them. This is your opportunity to express yourself. Send to: gro.noitilaoCecnaDzAnull@anytsyrK \nArts Congress will be held Tuesday\, March 14\, on the Senate Lawn of the Arizona State Capitol\, 1700 W. Washington. While we were successful in ensuring the state budget include funding for the Arizona Commission on the Arts in the amount of $1.5 million\, we intend to work to persuade state senators and representatives to vote for a $2 million allocation for the FY18 budget. Your voice is crucial to this effort. The day will only be a success if advocates like you join us\, and visit with your state legislators to talk about the impact of arts and culture in your community and the importance of public support for the arts. Lunch with the legislators will be in the big tent and include visits to the House and Senate galleries. \nWe have made it a priority to engage youth (high school and college age) at Arts Congress this year and hope that all of our attending organizations will engage their student/youth leaders to attend along with them\, so that they may begin learning and experiencing how to become change makers and arts advocates. \nIn order to set this initiative up for the most success\, we are holding an interactive information session & advocacy activity workshop for youth at Arizona School for the Arts on February 11\, 10-12 pm\, 1410 N 3rd St\, Phoenix. \n(602) 253.6535\, gro.straehtrofsneziticzanull@ofni\, Arizona Citizens for the Arts\, 420 W. SUMMARY:No Frills Dance Happenin’ Tucson
DESCRIPTION:ZUZI! Dance presents its Spring\, biannual No Frills Dance Happenin’. A variety of performers throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona come to share fresh and innovative works from various stages of the creative process. The works range from serious to silly and some are presented here for the first time. \n“No Frills” has been in existence for 16 years and is an important venue for local choreographers to show new work or work in progress. ZUZI! “No Frills” has been described as an open mic for dance and is a unique opportunity to showcase work and perform in a relaxed setting. As the name suggests\, there really are no frill…..no fancy lights\, no fancy sets….just dancers\, choreographers\, experimentation\, and a great show! \n“No Frills” concert has come to serve two important purposes. First\, it has become a popular venue for youth performers\, schools and youth choreography. Second\, it has continued to be an important venue for local choreographers to showcase new work\, which can be quite experimental in nature. \nThis showcase will truly be about the process and will be an impressive showing of our local talent.
