DESCRIPTION:MOVE Festival returns for its third annual showcase at Herberger Theater Center’s Stage West. Featuring more than 20 performances and over 150 dancers\, this two-night event celebrates the incredible range of talent\, creativity\, and artistry thriving throughout Arizona’s dance community. \nAudiences can expect an unforgettable evening of movement\, collaboration\, and culture as dancers and choreographers from across the state come together to share their work on one stage. \nFounded and produced by Eric Alonso in 2023\, MOVE Festival was created with the vision of providing artists and choreographers a professional\, supportive\, and elevated platform to showcase their talents. Building on the success of AZ Baddie Factory — Alonso’s community-based open class program founded in 2021 — the festival has continued to grow through collaborations with respected artists and organizations including Jenzi Russell\, Abstraction Dance Company\, Alexander\, Elle Prodigy\, and many others. \nAlonso is also the creator of Phoenix Dance Showcase\, a monthly performance series launched in October 2024 that offers choreographers and dancers from across Arizona an intimate space to present new work. The showcase is held every third or fourth Sunday of the month and will return following MOVE Festival. \nThank you for joining us for this celebration of dance\, artistry\, and community. As an associate professor of\ndance at SMU Meadows School of the Arts\, Dolder teaches all levels of the Martha Graham\ntechnique\, dance kinesiology and dance composition. He conducts research in three-dimensional\ninteractive software for the instruction of dance kinesiology as well as exploring new forms of physical\ndata capture in biomechanics. Professor Dolder has a long-term research interest in the pedagogy of\nMartha Graham and is currently in the final stages of completing his documentary Martha Graham:\nArtifact~Architect\, am examination of the evolution of Martha Graham’s pedagogy\, revealing a\ncentury year old cycle of tradition and progress within the Graham technique.

A former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company\, he has spent the last\n25 years on a multi-disciplinary journey that has taken him to projects in theater\, dance\, music\,\nvideography\, kinesiology\, interactive set design and “green” architecture. As an associate professor of\ndance at SMU Meadows School of the Arts\, Dolder teaches all levels of the Martha Graham\ntechnique\, dance kinesiology and dance composition. He conducts research in three-dimensional\ninteractive software for the instruction of dance kinesiology as well as exploring new forms of physical\ndata capture in biomechanics. Professor Dolder has a long-term research interest in the pedagogy of\nMartha Graham and is currently in the final stages of completing his documentary Martha Graham:\nArtifact~Architect\, am examination of the evolution of Martha Graham’s pedagogy\, revealing a\ncentury year old cycle of tradition and progress within the Graham technique.

It was founded in 1995 by Neil Ieremia (Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit)\, one of New Zealand’s most accomplished choreographers\, a creative entrepreneur\, and an inspirational leader. Ieremia draws from his Samoan and New Zealand roots to create innovative dance works that reach across social\, cultural\, and generational barriers. The Company features some of New Zealand’s finest dancers and has toured internationally to Europe\, Japan\, South Korea\, Mexico\, Australia\, and New Caledonia. In 2004\, Black Grace made its US debut\, performing a sold-out season at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival.
