SUMMARY:CaZo Dance Theatre's FATE (Tempe)
DESCRIPTION:Fall In Love with Destiny Again as Fate Returns to the Stage.\nMesa\, Arizona\, September 10\, 2024 — Four years after its abrupt cancelation\, CaZo Dance Theatre is proud to announce the return of its original love story\, Fate\, premiering live at Tempe Center for the Arts on November 8 and 9\, 2024. \nFollow the journey of two young couples as they explore the intricacies of love\, life and destiny\, all told through the power of movement and dance. When Dean and Suzy-Lee meet as children\, they never thought they would one day fall in love. After Dean is drafted into the military\, their destiny’s take yet another unexpected turn. Shawn and Daisy\, meanwhile\, meet while dancing at a club\, an introduction that will change their lives forever. How these two couples deal with love\, loss\, war\, and the unexpected define the collective fate surrounding us all. \nFate marks the first time CaZo Dance Theatre will feature live musical performances during the production. Local Arizona artists Ted Jachimowiz\, Delaney Harkins\, and Chelsea Kae will play live music and sing covers for half of the songs throughout the show. \n“When we originally planned to bring Fate back in the Spring of 2020\, before COVID shut everything down\, we were going to include live vocal performances\,” says CaZo Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Bridgette Caron Borzillo. “So\, it was only logical to include that aspect again this time around.” \nThis show also marks the first time CaZo Dance Theatre will not be presenting a dark\, horror- themed show in the fall. “We considered doing one of our usual dark shows\,” says Borzillo\, “but with our 10th anniversary coming up next year\, and our show dates falling on Veterans Day weekend\, we wanted to do something we had already worked hard on in the past and honor our military veterans at the same time. Fate was the perfect choice.” \nFate will be performed live at Tempe Center for the Arts (700 W. Rio Salado Pkwy.\, Tempe\, AZ) on Friday\, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday\, November 9 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at www.cazodance.com or on CaZo Dance Company’s official Facebook Page. Prices are $28 for general audiences\, $20 for students and military\, $55 for VIP (limited quantities)\, and $22 for virtual tickets. \n“Everyone was devastated when we had to cancel the show a couple of weeks before its premiere four years ago. I’m so happy we’re now in a place to bring this show back to the stage with an updated\, exciting version that will for sure pull at your heartstrings.” \nContact:\nBridgette Borzillo\nCaZo Dance Theatre\nwww.cazodance.com\nmoc.liamgnull@ynapmocecnadozac\n619-322-4178\n###

SUMMARY:Lucid Movement Series (Tucson)
DESCRIPTION:This class series will consist of 4 weekends in the practice of listening\, moving alone and together through kinesthetic awareness\, growth\, connection\, and renewal through movement. \nMen and women of all ages (professional dancers\, mature movers\, inexperienced dancers\, and folks that love to move in a meditative and spontaneous way) are invited to participate in this class. The use of playful and deep imagery and improvisation is incorporated and the classes build on each other. \nSRT reveals the natural grace in every human being and taps into transforming states of  consciousness which awakens the Dance within and guides us in the practice of letting go; letting go of stress\, letting go of unnecessary holding in our body\, letting go of preconceptions about what is supposed to happen\, letting go of fear of awkwardness\, letting go of the belief that we somehow don’t have the “right body”. \nSaturdays from 10:30-11:30am running October 5-November 2 at The sYnapse at Studio Y. $60 for all 4 classes in the series.

SUMMARY:Arizona Arts Live presents Frontera (Tucson)
DESCRIPTION:Frontera\nDana Gingras / Animals of Distinction\nNovember 1\, 2024 at 7:30pm\nTen dancers break through boundaries in the U.S. premiere of this visually striking spectacle featuring live music and mesmerizing lighting. Presented in Centennial Hall. \nIn an era where the advancing frontier of knowledge and control monitors our movements\, defines our identities\, and gathers our data\, the human body has never been so visible. Increasingly\, surveillance technologies blur the border between public and private in an attempt to orchestrate our place in the world. \nIn Frontera\, choreographer Dana Gingras tackles these borders to answer the question: what space remains for the unruly\, ungovernable body in a world consumed by monitoring technologies? Watch ten dancers navigate a spectacular world of light in a visual conversation between choreography\, architecture\, and live music by Fly Pan Am and field recordings by post-rock musician Dave Bryant (Godspeed You! Black Emperor). \nhttps://arizonaartslive.com/frontera \nDeveloped with support from the National Arts Centre’s National Creation Fund. Co-produced by Danse Danse (Montreal)\, Sydney Festival\, CTM Festival(Berlin) & PuSh International Arts Festival (Vancouver). Performances made possible with support by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseildes Arts et des Lettres du Québec. \nChoreography & Direction: Dana Gingras\nVisual Concept & Scenography: United Visual Artists\nLive music: Fly Pan Am\nExecutive Producer Centre de Creation O Vertigo – CCOV\nIn co-production with Animals of Distinction.

SUMMARY:ASU Dance presents Emerging Artists I (Tempe)
DESCRIPTION:One show. Two artists. An exploration of identity and what it means to be seen. Emerging Artists I presents original choreographic work by third-year dance graduate students JP Alejandro and Brandon Lombardo. \nPlease note: There is some audience participation in each piece. \nIn the first half of the show\, Lombardo’s “Lolita vs. Brandon: Party of One” explores the themes of family/chosen family\, queerness and identity. This personal\, vulnerable piece is filled with self-exploration and comedy. \nContent warning: Contains strong language and some undressing. \nThe second half of the show features the work of Alejandro. In “Balikbayan\,” this dance theater performance examines Filipinx American identity and navigates the complexities of what it means to belong. \nContent warning: Contains themes of trauma\, violence and hate crimes.
