SUMMARY:Free Arts & Storybook Ballet: Peter Pan (Scottsdale)
DESCRIPTION:Free Arts\, in collaboration with Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and Dance Theater West\, presents our Storybook Ballet\, Peter Pan. This Professional Artist Series brings children and teens\, ages 8 – 18 years old\, from foster care group homes\, to study with Dance Theater West for four weeks. Children learn movement skills\, team building skills\, rhythm and choreography. Free Arts invites you to the culminating performance of this series on Sunday\, September 14\, 2025. \nThe lobby (complete with exhibits) opens at 2 pm\, with the performance of Peter Pan beginning at 3 pm. In addition to the performance\, professional teaching artists have spent several weeks with youth exploring Peter Pan themes through visual arts workshops. Before and after the performance\, their final exhibits will be on display in the lobby\, along with participants showing off their newfound DJ skills. \nThis unique event is a rare opportunity to see our programming with young people live on-stage\, and in a beautiful venue. \nPlease join us at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and support these young people’s courageous efforts. \nThis program has been made possible\, in part\,\, through assistance from Scottsdale Arts.

The evening begins with Character cards given to each person with clues on it to uncover who is the Witch that has been causing mysterious deaths and people falling ill. We will enjoy  live music and vocal stylings from Ted Jachimowiz and Chelsea Rae and Aerial performances from CaZo Members as you uncover some clues.  There will be a Silent Auction with many items from local businesses\, Refreshments\, Beer and wine\, and mingling with 2025 CaZo Members. We will then entertain you with an introduction to our new members\, a sneak peak of our Fall Production\, “Coven.” We will also Inform you all of  what’s in store for Fall 2025- Spring 2026 and learn how you can help us succeed. We will end the night with a raffle and see who figured out who the Witch is that we will put on trial. Your ticket includes all of this and one free drink ticket for beer or wine and one raffle ticket (That can also be used for a drink).  We also have a ticket option for no Drink tickets as well. This is a night you will not want to miss. All proceeds will go directly towards future projects\, dancer compensation. Her work has been presented at American College Dance Association Conference (Gala and National alternate)\, California State University Long Beach\, Grand Canyon University\, The Black Artist Dance Collective\, Reed College\, DeKalb School of the Arts\, and Change Church\, among others.  As a performer\, she has appeared with the Black Angels Collective for Tobe Nwigwe at Coachella and Milan Fashion Week. Her performance credits also include the Atlanta Jr. Hawks and Falcons\, Usher’s New Look Foundation\, Atlanta Ballet and Big Boi\, andThe Nutcracker at the Fox Theatre\, National Cheer Association College Nationals (All-girl champion)\, Universal Dance Association College Nationals (finalists)\, and more. Her solo work has been featured at the Restore Arts Festival (Milwaukee)\, Risk/Reward Festival (Portland)\, and Breaking Ground Festival (Phoenix). She holds an MFA in Dance and Choreography from Arizona State University and is currently an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Oregon. Her choreography blends contemporary and traditional practices rooted in the African diaspora. Her work has been presented at American College Dance Association Conference (Gala and National alternate)\, California State University Long Beach\, Grand Canyon University\, The Black Artist Dance Collective\, Reed College\, DeKalb School of the Arts\, and Change Church\, among others.  As a performer\, she has appeared with the Black Angels Collective for Tobe Nwigwe at Coachella and Milan Fashion Week. Her performance credits also include the Atlanta Jr. Hawks and Falcons\, Usher’s New Look Foundation\, Atlanta Ballet and Big Boi\, andThe Nutcracker at the Fox Theatre\, National Cheer Association College Nationals (All-girl champion)\, Universal Dance Association College Nationals (finalists)\, and more. Her solo work has been featured at the Restore Arts Festival (Milwaukee)\, Risk/Reward Festival (Portland)\, and Breaking Ground Festival (Phoenix).
