SUMMARY:Skinner Releasing Workshop (Tucson)
DESCRIPTION:Men and women of all ages (professional dancers\, mature movers\, inexperienced dancers\, and folks that love to move in a meditative and spontaneous way) are invited to participate in this class. The use of playful and deep imagery and improvisation is incorporated and the classes build on each other. \nYour commitment to the series is a large part of the experience. \nSRT reveals the natural grace in every human being and taps into transforming states of  consciousness which awakens the Dance within and guides us in the practice of letting go; letting go of stress\, letting go of unnecessary holding in our body\, letting go of preconceptions about what is supposed to happen\, letting go of fear of awkwardness\, letting go of the belief that we somehow don’t have the “right body”. \nTactile exercises are used to give the imagery immediate physical effect in the movements of participants. \nTwo class sessions will be offered on Friday evenings from 4:30-6pm and Saturday mornings from 10-11:30am at the sYnapse at Studio Y. Session 1: January 10-February 1. Session 2: February 7-28. $120 per session or $220 for all 8 weeks.

SUMMARY:Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández (Mesa)
DESCRIPTION:Amalia Hernández was a dancer and choreographer\, founder of the Ballet Folklórico de México in 1952. Hernández began a long journey through Mexican culture that would lead her to rescue the traditional dances around Mexico. She managed to project to the world the beauty of our country through movement\, from pre-Columbian cultures and Spanish influences to the revolutionary times. With her first performances in 1952\, she obtained public recognition as a cultural representative of Mexico. Her great success established the Ballet in the Palace of Fine Arts as its permanent venue. \nAmalia Hernández fue una bailarina y coreógrafa\, fundadora en 1952 del Ballet Folklórico de México. Hernández inició un largo trayecto por la cultura mexicana que la llevaría a rescatar las danzas tradicionales de los diversos rincones de México. Ella logró proyectar ante el mundo la belleza de las diferentes regiones de nuestro país a través del movimiento\, desde las culturas precolombinas\, las influencias españolas en la época del virreinato hasta la fuerza popular de los tiempos revolucionarios. Con sus primeras presentaciones en 1952 obtuvo el reconocimiento del público como representante cultural de México. Su gran éxito logró establecer al Ballet en el Palacio de Bellas Artes como su sede permanente.

SUMMARY:Arizona Young Artists’ Competition (AYAC) Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to have you join the legacy of young artists who are seeking enriching educational opportunities. Through the Arizona Young Artists’ Competition\, our diverse\, burgeoning creative community is given the opportunity to compete in the disciplines of Modern/Contemporary Dance\, Classical Voice\, Musical Theatre Voice\, and Acting. This competition enables young Arizona artists to experience the audition process and garner productive feedback and pertinent experience through an adjudication process led by highly esteemed arts professionals. \nAfter the preliminary auditions\, four finalists will be chosen from each discipline. These artists will be given the chance to astonish our panel of respected judges in our Arizona Young Artists’ Showcase and vie for an opportunity to bring home a $1\,500 first prize scholarship awarded to the winner of each discipline. \nAt the Showcase\, audience members will also be asked to vote for their favorite performer in all four categories to win the People’s Choice Award and take home a $100.00 prize. \nAll applicants are asked to submit a headshot to moc.liamgnull@regrebrehcaya\, at least a week before your audition. The photo must be a tightly cropped photo of the face\, from the shoulders up. Please include your name and category/categories you are auditioning for in the email. This does not have to be a formal headshot\, but we ask that it be clear\, to aid our adjudicators in facial recognition.
