SUMMARY:DANCE DAY - Around the WORLD
DESCRIPTION:INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY\nSince 1982*\, the world has been celebrating ‘dance’ on April 29th. It is an occasion for dance communities to plan events and invite the public to join them — in classes\, to watch performances\, and to be a part of the performance! \n “This day is a celebration day for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “dance”\, and acts as a wake-up-call for governments\, politicians and institutions which have not yet recognised its value to the people and to the individual and have not yet realised its potential for economic growth.”  -International Dance Day Organization (UNESCO International Theatre Institute) \nThe goals* of International Dance Day are: \n\n\n\nto promote dance in all its forms across the world\nto make people aware of the value of dance in all its forms\nto enable the dance community to promote their work on a broad scale\, so that governments and opinion leaders are aware of the value and importance of dance in all its forms and support it\nto enjoy dance in all its forms for its own sake\nto share the joy of dance with others\n\n\n\n*https://www.international-dance-day.org/ \nDance Magazine suggests these five ways to celebrate: \n\nHear from international choreographers about their process.\nCongratulate the Youth American Grand Prix winners.\nDance to give back.\nExperience a new culture.\nExpand your horizons.\n\nClick on the link above to read the entire article by Lauren Wingenroth\, 29 April 2016. \nPhoto: Ballet Arizona

SUMMARY:Scorpius Dance Theatre presents 'david+lisa' (PHX)
DESCRIPTION:Scorpius Dance Theatre presents ‘david+lisa’ at The Pavilion at the Herberger Theater\nApril 8-10\, 7:30 pm \nBack by Popular Demand! An Unusual Love Story … David+Lisa. \nDavid+Lisa is an intense fairy-tale of sorts that tells of two people who meet in a treatment center of young adults with mental and psychological issues. After a series of events an unlikely attachment is developed between the volatile individuals. David+Lisa is inspired by the fact-based stage play and 1960s film. Scorpius is the first to abstract this story into the realm of contemporary dance and original music by Kristofer Hill and Ryan Breen\, \nTickets: $25.00 + Service Fee = $32.50\nLimited Seating\n*************** \nThe Pavilion at the Herberger Theater \nThe Herberger Theater Center (HTC) build a new outdoor stage\, The Pavilion at the Herberger Theater. \nBuilt on the recently cleared land on the east side on the theater\, The Pavilion will host performances through April 2021. \n“The opening of The Pavilion outdoor stage is about hope and giving an opportunity for companies to meet their audiences in a new way\,” said Mark Mettes\, President and CEO of the Herberger Theater. “We have heard from our guests that digital offerings are just not the same. We want to answer the call and provide a live arts experience for the community. These outdoor performances are about being together\, yet safely apart\, in order to experience performances in a safe and socially distanced way.” \nA generous donation from Arizona Artificial Lawns will allow HTC to install turf to prepare a more welcoming outdoor space for guests. At its current capacity\, the stage will seat approximately 160 guests\, who will follow social distancing guidelines. As restrictions loosen\, the space could accommodate more than 300 guests. \nWith generous donations from Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust\, Billie Jo and Judd Herberger\, Perkins Coie\, the Arizona Community Foundation and Downtown Phoenix Partnership\, HTC can focus on bringing audiences and art back together at the Herberger Theater\, where audience meets art.

SUMMARY:"Tootsie" ASU Gammage 2021-2022 Broadway
DESCRIPTION:It’s “far and away the funniest musical of the season” (Daily News). It’s “the most uproarious new show in years” (The Hollywood Reporter). It’s “the best comedy on Broadway” (Forbes). No matter how you say it\, TOOTSIE is unanimously funny! It’s a laugh-out-loud love letter to the theatre\, based on the Oscar®-nominated film. \nFeaturing a Tony®-winning book by Robert Horn and an outrageously clever score by 2018 Tony® winner David Yazbek (THE BAND’S VISIT\, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS)\, this New York Times Critic’s Pick is a “hilarious\, thoroughly modern TOOTSIE” (People Magazine) that’s “even funnier than the movie!” (New York Post). “In these turbulent times\, with the world out of balance\, we need a place to let the good times roll\,” says Rolling Stone\, “TOOTSIE is it.”

SUMMARY:BANDALOOP Vertical Dances on the UA MALL! (Tucson)
DESCRIPTION:BANDALOOP Vertical Dances on the UArizona Campus MALL! \nArizona Arts Live (formerly UA Presents) brings us BANDALOOP to dance vertically on the UArizona Mall buildings during Reading Days March 9-10 (no Spring Break this year). It’s outside! Wear your masks and stop the spread! \nMar 8\, 10a-1p & 3p-6p | Mar 9\, 1p-6p | Mar 10\, 10a-1p & 3p-6p | Mar 11\, 1p-6p \nBANDALOOP honors nature\, community\, and the human spirit through perspective-bending\, vertical dance. Using buildings on the UArizona Campus Mall as a dance floor on its side\, BANDALOOP creates a new and original performance suited for the times we are all living in. \nYouTube promo \nA pioneer in vertical performance\, BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality\, intricate choreography\, and climbing technology to turn the dance floor on its side. BANDALOOP’s site-reactive work has been presented worldwide in theaters and museums\, on skyscrapers\, bridges\, billboards\, and historical sites\, in atriums and convention halls\, in nature on cliffs\, and on screen. \nBANDALOOP will be performing continuously during the times listed above. These experiences are part of the March 9-10 Reading Days. The faculty senate approved a decision to replace the 2021 Spring Break with a series of Reading Days spread throughout the Spring 2021 semester. This adjustment to the academic calendar is a necessary component of our ongoing commitment to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the Tucson community and across the nation by reducing travel by faculty\, staff and students. \nABOUT BANDALOOP \nFounded by choreographer Amelia Rudolph and under the artistic direction of Melecio Estrella\, BANDALOOP re-imagines dance\, activates public spaces\, and inspires wonder and imagination in audiences around the world. The company trains dancers and youth at home and on tour\, and has performed for millions of people in over 22 countries in Europe\, Africa\, the Middle East\, the Americas\, and Asia\, and on screens in films and digital media. \nBANDALOOP is based in Oakland\, CA\, where the company creates work for its bi-annual home season and for touring performances presented around the globe each year.  Education and outreach are also an intrinsic part of the company’s mission. In addition to its ongoing work with youth\, BANDALOOP offers regular classes\, camps\, and intensives at its home studio and in the mountains\, and team building programs for business executives.

SUMMARY:Dorrance Dance (Scottsdale) CANCELLED / will be RESCHEDULED
DESCRIPTION:Myelination (2017)\, choreographed by Michelle Dorrance\, is a full-company work featuring original\, live music by Donovan Dorrance and Gregory Richardson with vocalist Aaron Marcellus. This “exhilarating ensemble piece\,” in which each dancer is both an ensemble member and an improvisational soloist\, challenges the performers to take risks and achieve new heights of technical and musical execution inside of the form of tap dance.   \nIn addition\, Bessie-Award winning Three to One (2011)\, and the whimsical Jungle Blues (2012) complete this program\, illustrating the great range that this company is known for.  \nDorrance Dance was founded in 2011 by MacArthur “Genius” Award recipient and artistic director Michelle Dorrance. Dorrance Dance aims to honor tap dance’s uniquely beautiful history in a new and dynamically compelling context\, not by stripping the form of its tradition\, but by pushing it rhythmically\, aesthetically\, and conceptually.   \nPresented at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts\nVirginia G. Piper Theater\n7380 E 2nd St\nScottsdale\, AZ 85251
