SUMMARY:SCPA Akram Khan Co: Kaash
DESCRIPTION:Akram Khan is one of the most celebrated and respected dance artists today\, known for taking human themes and working with others to take them to new and unexpected places. His numerous honors include the Laurence Olivier\, Bessie and ISPA (International Society for the Performing Arts) Distinguished Artist awards. \nFounded in 2000\, Khan’s dance troupe\, the Akram Khan Company\, is now one of the world’s most innovative\, bringing thoughtful\, provocative and ambitious dance productions to the international stage. For its Scottsdale debut\, the Company will present the U.S. premiere of the revival of the 2002 evening-length work Kaash (Hindi for “if only”)\, choreographed by Khan with music by composer Nitin Sawhney and set design by sculptor Anish Kapoor. Performed by a strong international cast of five dancers\, the work continues Khan’s quest to build bridges between the worlds of contemporary dance and the Indian classical dance form Kathak. \n“It is like watching the aftermath of the Big Bang\, with Khan’s choreography as the fallout. He and his four dancers occupy the stage like a collective force field\, fracturing and reforming their tight little groupings\, wheeling across the stage like sheet lightning. They are a complex equation of pure mass\, pure speed\, pure energy.” –The Guardian \n20% discount for ADC members. Promo code sent via email. \n \n
