SUMMARY:Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (Scottsdale)
DESCRIPTION:The mission of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is to bring artists\, art\, and audiences together to enrich\, engage\, educate\, and change lives through the experience of dance. \nFor 46 years\, Hubbard Street has been one of the most original forces in contemporary dance—bringing top choreographers and works to Chicago and beyond. Hubbard Street’s ever-evolving repertory\, created by today’s leading choreographic voices\, makes it a company that dancers aspire to join and performance venues all over the world are eager to present. To date\, the main company has performed globally in 19 countries and 44 U.S. states. \nAt home in Chicago\, Hubbard Street performs 20 times a year and delivers renowned education programs in 50 classrooms across 17 Chicagoland schools. HSDC Education utilizes the choreographic process to teach essential problem-solving skills\, creativity\, and collaboration—expanding the company’s reach beyond traditional concert dance audiences and ensuring that everyone has access to world-class dance and instruction. \n“Hubbard Street Dance Chicago ought to bottle itself as a cure for the ills of the era.” — The New York Times \n“The company\, under the leadership of artistic director Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell\, seems to be evolving … toward a commitment to the legacy and the here-and-now of Chicago and American dance.” — Chicago Reader

SUMMARY:Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (Scottsdale)
DESCRIPTION:Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo brings its internationally beloved troupe of male dancers to Scottsdale to perform a brilliant combination of skillful pointe work and hilarious parodying of classical ballet favorites like Swan Lake. According to The Guardian\, it’s “the funniest night you’ll ever have at the ballet!”  \nFounded in New York City in 1974\, the company\, affectionately known as the Trocks\, began by appearing in late-late shows in off-off-Broadway lofts for small audiences who appreciated the iconoclastic humor of it all. In the nearly 50 years since then\, the company has grown to achieve great appeal among more mainstream audiences who\, each season\, flock to theaters throughout the world to see these prima ballerinas perform. “The amalgam of ballerina finesse and daft diva antics is brilliant\, unsettling\, riveting: the epitome of Trocks style” (Alastair Macaulay\, The New York Times).  \nRevered by ballet aficionados as well as the uninitiated—those who don’t know a plié from a jeté—the Trocks are “a guaranteed hoot for people who know nothing of ballet and an absolute must for those who think they know the originals” (Sydney Star Observer).  \n“Not afraid to play to the house\, they conspire with us to pay homage to tradition even while giving it a kick in the tutu.” — Elizabeth Zimmer\, The Village Voice
