SUMMARY:Hawkinsdance presents The People Electric (Tucson)
DESCRIPTION:Hawkinsdance presents The People Electric — their first self-produced contemporary dance concert. This hour-long show features multiple works\, a cast of 11 dancers\, music by Tucson artists\, and is produced and choreographed by Artistic Director Shelly Hawkins (recipient of a stART Mini-Grant from The Arts Foundation of Tucson and Southern Arizona). \nThe title work of the evening\, The People Electric\, is an expression of feminism with a stylistic nod to the second wave feminist movement of the 1970s\, with a cast of 6 incredible dancers. Local music stars Katie Haverly and Jillian Bessett are teaming up to create a score of powerful female vocals and sparkling beats. The other featured work\, The Crystal Cave\, is a men’s trio scored by Neo-classical pianist Anton Faynberg\, and imagines a world undisturbed and uncorrupted\, subject to the laws of nature but not the effects of humanity. \nExperience powerful and passionate dance artists in their truest form\, and in all their glory! \nFriday-Saturday 7:30 pm\, Sunday 2 pm. Tickets $20\, $12 (22 and younger) + service fees. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 29\, 8:00 PM\nScottsdale Center for the Performing Arts\nVirginia G. Piper Theater \nComplexions Contemporary Ballet transcends tradition in a groundbreaking mix of styles ranging from ballet to hip hop. Founded in 1994 by two former members of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater\, Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden\, the award-winning company has been featured several times on the hit show So You Think You Can Dance. The company brings an exhilarating program that features Rhoden’s Star Dust an “utterly transfixing” tribute to the life and music of David Bowie. \nComplexions Contemporary Ballet makes it “sensationally\, jaw-droppingly clear that we live in the age of the super-dancer\, at a time when technical virtuosity is being redefined as an expressive state.” — Dance Magazine
