SUMMARY:Creative Dance Lab (Tucson)
DESCRIPTION:Creative dance invites us to make up our own dance\, to find new ways to move\, and new ways to \ncollaborate with others. This workshop series is an invitation to develop one’s own natural movement \nresources. Each meeting will present creative problems to solved by individuals and in groups using \nimprovised movement. Newcomers to the art of dance as well as experienced movers are welcome. \nAdults and older teenagers are welcome. Sign up for all four sessions or a single meeting. \n  \nFour class sessions will be offered on Sundays from 3-5pm at the sYnapse at Studio Y. March 23-April 13 $120 for all 4 sessions. \nSession 1\, March 23: The Sum of the Parts. How can you move the distinct parts of your body? Your \nfingers? Your spine? How can you move with another? How can a group move? \nSession 2\, March 30: What’s That Sound? Creative dancers make up their sounds and music or they \nmove in silence. The sounds of the voice\, hands and feet provide accompaniment\, evolving naturally out \nof the dancers’ movement. \nSession 3\, April 6: Where Are We? Knowing where we are in the world around us is a basic survival skill! \nDancers develop their use of space as a natural element of their movement expression. What does the \nmovement look like? Where is it going? Where are the dancers in relation to the environment and each \nother? \nSession 4\, April 13: Relationship Gives Meaning. A dance is a series of movements. The similarities and \ndifferences in the quality of each movement expresses an idea. The dancer makes choices to guide those \nideas into a clear theme. When two or more people dance together\, they may express unity or contrast \nor any variety of complementary relationships.

DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE\nSaturday\, April 5\, 2025 \nPresented by Cultural Coalition and Tempe Center for the Arts\, the 13th Annual El Puente Festival\, is a free event that showcases the Valleys most talented youth performers with a day full of music\, dance\, and storytelling. \nKnown for its signature community parade across the bridge\, or “el puente” in spanish\, this festival brings together artists of all ages to highlight the importance of connecting traditional arts and culture practices from one generation to the next. High school mariachi music\, elementary school ballet folklórico dances\, and free arts activities are just a few of the things attendees will enjoy during this event. \nThe festival will have a variety of educational and arts activities for youth of all ages\, including free books\, hands-on crafts\, and activities that get excited feet moving to the beat of the live music. DESCRIPTION:Cirque Mechanics: Pedal Punk \nSteena Murray Mainstage \nApril 11 | 7:30 PM \nEnter the world of Pedal Punk\, a place where cycling is the way to escape a technology-obsessed society. In Pedal Punk\, we experience the excitement\, artistry and thrill that occurs when a wacky bike shop mechanic interacts with cyclists and bikes. He repairs more than broken pieces – he creates wondrous machines and inspires the cyclist in all of us to become a pedal punk. \nAbout Cirque Mechanics\nCirque Mechanics inspired by the modern circus\, finds its roots in the mechanical and its heart in the stories of American industrial ingenuity.  The shows\, imbedded in realism\, display a raw quality rarely found in modern circus.  Cirque Mechanics signature style is wrapped in acrobatics\, mechanical marvels and a bit of clowning around. This sensibility can be found in our five theatrical productions\, “Birdhouse Factory”\, “Boom Town”\, “Pedal Punk”\, “42ft” \, and “Zephyr” and we are excited to bring this unique approach to circus to “Cirque Mechanics Under Canvas” our brand new tent project that we launched in the summer of 2022. \nThis is entertainment infused with original apparatus and unique designs that can be found nowhere else.
