DESCRIPTION:Dansense-Nrtyabodha is joined by Silambam Phoenix and Fine Arts Association of AZ to bring to Phoenix SAMAVESHA\, an evening-length work by dance stalwarts from India\, Gurus N. Srikanth and Aswathy Nair. SAMAVESHA is an exploration of the complexities of gender identity and gender hierarchy in the stories of Shikhandi and Brihannala from the Indian epic Mahabharata\, through the idioms of Mohiniattam and Bharatanatyam. Srikanth and Aswathy are joined by local artists\, J. SUMMARY:Youth Aerial Trapeze: Spring Session
DESCRIPTION:All levels are welcome.  For those students with aerial experience\, this class offers the next step to advancing their skills.  This course will concentrate on the importance of fluidity while dancing on the trapeze as well as how to incorporate dance on the floor.  In addition to learning aerial skills\, students work on building spatial awareness\, trust & cooperation. SUMMARY:Adult Lucid Movement
DESCRIPTION:In this class we will look at the internal landscape of the body and how it relates to the external landscape of our world. We will move to encourage lightness to our felt (kinesthetic) movement experience to explore and expand.  Be prepared for some deep listening to the rhythms of the body and playful\, spontaneous explosions of movement.  Bring your curious self!  Open to a new way of inhabiting your precious body.  This class holds the space for nurturance in safety and trust.  All participants are required to read our safety guidelines here. \n  \nAll  Classes run from 10:00am to 11:30am on Saturdays.

SUMMARY:Sol Rhythmz Dance Festival (Tempe)
DESCRIPTION:Sol Rhythmz is the third event of the Sol Motion series within the Arizona State University Dance Department. It focuses on the dance traditions of the Senegambia region and the emergence of the dance forms within the diaspora\, specifically looking at the Caribbean. Participants will take a journey through dances from West Africa to the Caribbean. This day-long event features workshops\, a panel discussion and a social hour. DESCRIPTION:Desert Dance Theatre presents “Cool Desert Night: An Evening of Music and Dance”\nIn celebration of its 45th season\, Desert Dance Theatre presents “Cool Desert Night: An Evening of Music & Dance” featuring special guest jazz pianist\, Charles Lewis. The evening will include: new music and dance collaborations as well as some oldies but goodies. The company will perform dances to a variety of music ranging from contemporary to traditional Latin Jazz and Fusion. We will bring back “blasts from the past” interdisciplinary music and dance repertory of Crossroads Performance Group and Step’s Junk Funk. There will also be a raffle and silent auction to help us to continue “Dancing into the Future.” \nSpecial Guest Artist\, Charles Lewis: \n \nJazz pianist\, Charles Lewis has lived and performed in Arizona since the early 1950s. Born in Philadelphia in 1933\, local jazz legend Lewis began playing piano at age seven\, and was greatly influenced by musicians such as Oscar Peterson\, Ray Charles\, Dizzy Gillespie\, and Nat King Cole. He started his Arizona career playing at the South 7th Avenue Elks Club in Phoenix\, which is now a historic African American landmark. He eventually formed his own band\, The Charles Lewis Quintet. DESCRIPTION:All levels are welcome.  For those students with aerial experience\, this class offers the next step to advancing their skills.  This course will concentrate on the importance of fluidity while dancing on the trapeze as well as how to incorporate dance on the floor.  In addition to learning aerial skills\, students work on building spatial awareness\, trust & cooperation. DESCRIPTION:In this class we will look at the internal landscape of the body and how it relates to the external landscape of our world. We will move to encourage lightness to our felt (kinesthetic) movement experience to explore and expand.  Be prepared for some deep listening to the rhythms of the body and playful\, spontaneous explosions of movement.  Bring your curious self!  Open to a new way of inhabiting your precious body.  This class holds the space for nurturance in safety and trust.  All participants are required to read our safety guidelines here. \n  \nAll  Classes run from 10:00am to 11:30am on Saturdays.
