SUMMARY:Martha Graham Dance Co: The EVE Project (Scottsdale)
DESCRIPTION:Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts Presents Martha Graham Dance Company: The EVE Project\nThe EVE Project celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution\, which in 1920 guaranteed all American women the right to vote. Featuring three of Graham’s signature classic pieces in conversation with eye-opening new works from some of today’s top choreographers\, this program evokes the different aspects of womanhood. The Dark Meadow Suite\, Ekstasis and Errand into the Maze\, all stunning Graham masterworks\, tell diverse narratives of women searching for connection\, self-discovery and empowerment. The Lamentation Variations by Aszure Barton\, Bulareyaung Pagalava and Larry Keigwin reflect on Graham’s signature solo and her enduring influence. The program closes with Woodland\, Pontus Lidberg’s popular\, high-energy dance for 10 featuring a female soloist who is a dreamer\, observer and outsider in a whimsical world — perhaps conjured by her own imagination. \nSignature Sponsor: Ethelyn Cohen in memory of Howard Cohen \nPhoto of Leslie Andrea Williams in Martha Graham’s Chronicle © Hibbard Nash Photography

SUMMARY:UA Presents Martha Graham Dance Co The EVE Project (Tucson)
DESCRIPTION:UA Presents Martha Graham Dance Co\, The EVE Project\nAs the oldest and most celebrated modern dance company in America\, the Martha Graham Dance Company exemplifies its founder’s timeless and uniquely American style of dance – one that has influenced generations of artists and continues to captivate audiences worldwide. \nIn celebration of the Centenary of American Women’s Right to Vote in 2020\, the Martha Graham Company has announced The EVE Project — the guiding force behind the Company’s 2018/19 and the 2019/20 seasons.  The EVE Project is designed to explore the many different facets of womanhood.  The theme not only honors the progression of women in the last 100 years\, but also provides entree into today’s most pressing conversations. The Company is interested in collaborating with presenters and their local partners to augment main-stage performances with a range of auxiliary events.  New works from several female choreographers have been commissioned\, and the classic rep will feature both Graham’s heroines and anti-heroines — all with an underlying statement about female power.  A new work by Lucinda Childs\, Histoire\, will be available for performances beginning in spring of 2018.  In the spring of ’19\, a new work by Pam Tanowitz and a co-creation by Maxine Doyle and Bobbi Jene Smith will be premiered.  The work created for the Company by Annie-B Parson in 2017\, I used to love you\, will also be available. \n

SUMMARY:IMAGO THEATRE\, FROGZ UA Presents
DESCRIPTION:The New York Times raved “A mastery of mime\, dance\, and acrobatics.” \nCarol Triffle and Jerry Mouawad\, the creators of Imago\, have been called alchemists\, magicians\, theatrical animators\, and physical comedians. Defying classification\, they have populated the stage with characters and beings such as comedic amphibians\, acrobatic larvae\, circus boulders\, and metamorphosing humans in works which tantalize the senses\, the intellect\, and the passions. Imago has repeatedly proven unique in its ability to create both popular family-oriented fare as highly regarded as its critically acclaimed (and ambitious) productions for adults. \nImago blurs the lines of the expected to break new ground\, exploding performance boundaries yet maintaining humor and humanity. The company’s critically acclaimed production of FROGZ has been performed around the world and at the prestigious New Victory Theatre on Broadway.  Variety Magazine called it “Felliniesque mayhem.”  Recommended for ages 5 and older. \n  \n

SUMMARY:RE:volve
DESCRIPTION:[nueBOX] will be hosting RE:volve (formerly known as Experimental Art Night)\, a free evening of performances on October 20 at 7PM in the Acting Studio at Mesa Arts Center. The show will be filled with diverse and exploratory works from local artists Steven Redondo\, Gina Jurek\, Rain Locker\, and ASU Dancers. \nSteven Redondo is no stranger to RE:volve. He created and performed three solo pieces at RE:volve in a series of work titled “one” “two”\, and “three”. Each piece  explored the relationship of artist and audience. This time he is bringing us “FOUR” which was created in reaction and relation to sound. Gina Jurek is a Phoenix based dance artist and musician that investigates the exchange between material and spiritual realms-specifically at the intersection of identity. Her most recent work titled “Thru” explores dis-identifying with the body so as to make oneself a conduit to be directed and moved by Spirit energy. Also sharing work at at this event is Rain Locker. \n  \nASU Dance Composition students lead by faculty and choreographer\, Carley Conder\, will have three pieces being presented. Student works will include “In the Jungle”\, a work inspired by a Henri Rousseau painting\, “How far” which explores the idea of sacrifice in four separate and distinct parts\, and “Chan(g/c)e” which exhibits the reality of chance and change. \nRE:volve is a platform designed for established and up-and-coming performance artists alike. It provides a space for artists to share completed pieces\, performance experiments\, and works-in-progress while offering mentorship\, resources\, technical support\, marketing\, documentation\, and so much more. All are welcome and encouraged to partake in the creative process of these individuals. \nFor performance artists interested in showing work at the next RE:volve\, registration can be found online at: www.nuebox.org/revolve
