DESCRIPTION:GCC Dance is proud to host an open rehearsal with VERVE Dance Company\, GCC Dance’s resident student dance company\, and guest artist Amy Morrow.  The culmination of a four day intensive residency\, this open rehearsal will showcase the work created by students and Ms. Morrow. \nSeptember 27\, 12:00 PM \nGlendale Community College Dance Studio\, FC 101 \nFree and Open to the Public! \nAmy Morrow is a teacher\, choreographer\, and consultant based in Austin and Tel Aviv. Certified by Ohad Naharin\, Co-Artistic Director of the Batsheva Dance Company\, Morrow travels internationally teaching Gaga. Morrow graduated from Belhaven University with a B.F.A. Dance Honors. In collaboration with Jesse Zaritt\, she developed her senior thesis\, Contextualizing Art Cross-Culturally\, presenting dance to diverse audiences in unconventional venues. She further studied choreography and improvisation techniques on scholarship Nikolais/Louis Legacy Workshop. In 2012\, Morrow received the Artful Dance Scholarship from the Dance Council of North Texas. Morrow was recently commissioned for a Women’s Choreographic Voices series\, making her debut of String Theory as the “biggest splash” for Theater Jones. Morrow also serves as the company administrative manager for the award winning Idan Sharabi & Dancers Company based in Tel Aviv\, Israel. \n  \n

We will explore approaching the trapezes as a way to create improvised and crafted solo dances or move as partners within an image based landscape. Formal aspects of trapeze technique will also be addressed as needed but the majority of the class will be exploratory and experiental. There will be solo times of partnering and shared group dances with the trapeze. Some aerial experience is required to attend these classes. \nNanette Robinson\, choreographer\, educator and dancer is ZUZI! Co-Founder and Artistic Director\, holds a BFA in Dance from Temple University and is an introductory and ongoing certified instructor of Skinner Releasing. She has travelled internationally teaching and performing and has extensive experience as an aerial dancer and teacher having worked with Robert Davidson and Terry Sendgraff. Nanette’s choreography has been showcased locally with O-T-O\, Zenith Dance Collective\, Arts for All\, University of Arizona Dance Department\, Rick Wamer\, “Mythos” Project\, NEW ARTiculations\, Funhouse Movement Theater\, The Tucson Poetry Festival\, the ADAA Showcase and the Flagstaff Summer Dance Festival. Pilobolus continually forms diverse collaborations that break down barriers between disciplines and  challenge the way we think about dance. Physically and intellectually\, the company engages and inspires audiences around the world through  performance\, education and consultation. \nPilobolus propels itself in a variety of directions to reach these goals. The original company\, Pilobolus Dance Theater\, has toured its 115 pieces of repertory to more than 64 countries over the last 42 years. Pilobolus Shadowland\, the company’s evening length show currently touring Europe\, the Middle East and Asia\, has been seen by more than a half million people in the three years since it was created. \nPilobolus has been recognized with prestigious honors\, such as the Berlin Critic’s Prize\, the Scotsman Award\, the Brandeis Award\, a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cultural Programming\, the Samuel H. SUMMARY:MAC Season Kickoff Festival - Latin St Party
DESCRIPTION:Mesa Arts Center will celebrate a major milestone in 2015-16: the tenth season of entertainment and education at One East Main Street in Downtown Mesa. Everyone is invited to join the celebration at a free Season Kickoff Festival on Friday\, September 11\, 6-11 p.m. \nThe festival will take on the atmosphere of a Latin street party\, with an outdoor performance by American Chicano rock power trio Los Lonely Boys\, lessons in Latin social dance from New York-based Latino dance organization Ballet Hispanico with music provided by Marcos Crego\, and new exhibitions in Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum\, including three that will showcase works from actor Cheech Marin’s collection of Chicano art. \nFestival goers will see custom low-rider cars and motorcycles on display. Watch Efrain “Bugs” Gonzales doing live pin stripping. Artist Kyllan Maney will engage festival attendees to help in the creation of Mola Style patterns.  Cyphers The Center for Urban Art will be showcasing  talented street artists who will be creating paintings on site.  They will also be hosting a street style dance competition and performances throughout the evening. There will be a food court offering a variety of snacks and treats and Modelo Especial will be our featured beverage of the evening. \nFive exhibitions will open in Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum on Friday\, September 11. Take Ten: The Past Decade of Collecting by Cheech Marin will draw from the renowned private collection of entertainer and arts advocate Cheech Marin\, who has amassed one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collections of Chicano art. Curatorial Spotlight: Ricardo Ruizwill feature highlights of the curious paintings of Texas artist Ricardo Ruiz from Cheech Marin’s collection. 10 pick 10 will showcase the work of ten pivotal Chicano artists\, whose work has become the cornerstone of Marin’s collection\, and ten works by emerging artists at a juncture in their career. Yonder Peasant…The Photography of Pedro E. Guerrero will showcase iconic artist portraits and architectural photographs by the celebrated Arizona photographer Pedro Guerrero. And Chicano State of Mind will feature eight Arizona artists whose work explores the idea that being Chicano is a state of mind that goes beyond a restrictive classification. \nMesa Arts Center is located at One East Main Street in downtown Mesa. Afterwards\, you need instructor’s permission.\n \nPima Community College offers dance courses in Ballroom and Salsa under Fitness and Wellness Program (FAW). These classes taught by ADC member Krystyna Parafinczuk give beginners enough basics in all the Latin Styles of dance (rumba\, samba\, salsa\, mambo\, cha cha\, merengue\, bachata\, cumbia) as well as Fox Trot\, Waltz\, Ballroom Tango and Swing/Lindy Hop\, to give them courage to participate in the real world social dance settings thriving in the Tucson and Phoenix metro areas. No partners necessary and friendships are bound to develop.  Couples – make it a date night! \nNon-marking shoes that enable you to swivel on a hardwood floor\, and are comfortable\, are required.  “Finals” are field trips to Tucson Salsa and Ballroom group dance parties. \nFEE: 1 credit or audit = same fee of $75.50 plus registration fees. DESCRIPTION:Here Comes The World: an original immersive borderland experience in sound\, motion and images of digital light. \nMusicians Thollem McDonas\, Glenn Weyant and Michael Dauphinais will be joined by the ZUZI! Dancers to remix\, reinterpret\, and re-present transformative footage from a Border Wall experience earlier in the day shot within the Arizona\, USA/Sonora\, Mex. militarized zone. \nThe audio and video will fill the space as a point of departure for an improvisation illustrating the dynamics surrounding political borders as well as the inevitable collapse of all that is rigid and seemingly unmovable. \nThe sonic score will be created live with amplified found objects\, field recordings\, electronics\, and instruments of both traditional and original design. \nThe world comes to us as much as we go to the world with a sense of humility\, humor and adventure\, awake to possibilities and with curiosity and unity across borders of all kinds.

She earned a BFA in Dance Performance from Arizona State University while performing with Movement Source Dance Company of Phoenix. In 2006 she moved to Brooklyn\, NY to pursue a career in dance. During her time in New York\, Kriston had the pleasure of working with H.T Chen and Dian Dong\, Douglas Dunn and Karl Anderson. She thanks them all for how much she has learned from them. She presented her own work at Treskelion Arts in Brooklyn in 2010. After auditioning twice\, Kriston was thrilled to start a full-time position with Pilobolus Dance Theatre in August 2010. She loves being part of the fungus. Kriston also enjoys writing and National Geographic Magazine.
