At a TEDx event\, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local\, self-organized events are branded TEDx\, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program\, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.) Learn more about TEDx \nAbout TED\nTED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago\, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available\, free\, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates\, Al Gore\, Jane Goodall\, Elizabeth Gilbert\, Sir Richard Branson\, Nandan Nilekani\, Philippe Starck\, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala\, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Long Beach\, California\, along with the TEDActive simulcast in Palm Springs; the annual TEDGlobal conference is held each summer in Edinburgh\, Scotland. \nTED’s media initiatives include TED.com\, where new TEDTalks are posted daily\, the recently launched TED-Ed platform for students and educators\, the Open Translation Project\, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide\, and TEDBooks\, short e-books by speakers that elaborate on a single idea originally presented on TED’s stage. TED has established the annual TED Prize\, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx\, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local\, self-organized events around the world\, and the TED Fellows program\, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and\, with its help\, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. \n

SUMMARY:ASU Gammage WICKED
DESCRIPTION:Broadway’s biggest blockbuster is back by “popular” demand. Variety calls WICKED “a cultural phenomenon\,” and it continues to break box office records and sell out in record time. Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland\, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One — born with emerald green skin — is smart\, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful\, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for “the most complete — and completely satisfying — musical in a long time” (USA Today). – See more at: https://www.asugammage.com/shows/2014-15-special-engagements/wicked#sthash.UwkAslJG.dpuf

SUMMARY:8/22 Here Comes The World
DESCRIPTION:Here Comes The World: an original immersive borderland experience in sound\, motion and images of digital light. \nMusicians Thollem McDonas\, Glenn Weyant and Michael Dauphinais will be joined by the ZUZI! Dancers to remix\, reinterpret\, and re-present transformative footage from a Border Wall experience earlier in the day shot within the Arizona\, USA/Sonora\, Mex. militarized zone. \nThe audio and video will fill the space as a point of departure for an improvisation illustrating the dynamics surrounding political borders as well as the inevitable collapse of all that is rigid and seemingly unmovable. \nThe sonic score will be created live with amplified found objects\, field recordings\, electronics\, and instruments of both traditional and original design. \nThe world comes to us as much as we go to the world with a sense of humility\, humor and adventure\, awake to possibilities and with curiosity and unity across borders of all kinds.
\nGlenn Weyant “drags a cello bow across one of the protruding metal tines on the border wall and the symphony begins.” (The Desert Leaf)  www.sonicanta.com \nThollem\, “transgressing genre boundaries as much as he transcends them” (All About Jazz\, NY)  www.thollem.com \nMichael Dauphinais\, “a marvelous collaborative pianist” (ITEA Journal)\nwww.michaeldauphinais.com \nInvite your friends: facebook.com/events/788624424592627
