SUMMARY:Silambam Phoenix presents Waves of Resistance (Phoenix)
DESCRIPTION:Waves of Resistance\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: Sunday September 13\, 2026\, 3pm \nWhere: Third Street Theater\, Phoenix Center for the Arts\, 1202 N 3rd Street\, Phoenix\, AZ 85004 \nTickets: General Admission- $20\, VIP- $40 \nPURCHASE TICKETS \nAfter a successful developmental run in May\, Waves of Resistance is making its Phoenix premiere! \nIn 1763\, a group of colonists in America threw tea off of a slew of British ships in Boston Harbor to protest the taxes levied on them by a government across the sea. \nIn 1930\, thousands of Indians gathered across the country to march to the sea shore and make salt in protest of import taxes\, state sanctioned violence\, and centuries of colonial rule and exploitation which could no longer be denied. \nBut what brings the ordinary citizen to take up the cause of liberty? What drives them to lift their head and say “no more”? \nWaves of Resistance is a comparative production where we travel back in time and see our forebears\, Americans and Indians\, wake up and make valiant efforts to pursue liberty and freedom. \n“An investigation of the nature of revolution.”

It is a perfect platform for dance companies to get exposure\, promote their work\, and to connect with others in the dance community and the general public. Each evening performance will showcase different dance artists including emerging artists as well as professional companies from all genres and styles of dance.  \nA post-performance “Q & A” / “Talk Back” will be facilitated by the Arizona Dance Coalition directly after the show. This will allow the audience to engage in lively conversation with the artistic directors and choreographers for a deeper dive into insights in the creation of their dance works. \n“The Arizona Dance Coalition is a major event sponsor. \nFEATURED DANCE ARTISTS AND COMPANIES \nTHURSDAY\, SEPTEMBER 24 – Line-up (Alphabetical Order) \nPre-Show Activities: Interactive movement experience with COMMIT Dance Fitness Arizona Ensemble; solo dance performance by Erika Alexxandrya \nAlignDance Theatre (Scottsdale\, AZ) – Contemporary Modern\nCaZo Dance Theatre (Mesa\, AZ) – Modern \nDesert Dance Theatre/Step’s Junk Funk (Tempe/Mesa\, AZ) – Interdisciplinary Modern & Percussion\nErika Alexxandrya (Los Angeles\, CA) – Contemporary\nJazz Spectrum Dance Company (Lake Forest\, CA) – Classical Jazz\nLenora Noire (Phoenix\, AZ) – Raqs Sharqi/Egyptian Style Belly Dance\nShahrazad Dance Company (Phoenix\, AZ) – Egyptian/ Arabic Dance\nShane O’Hara * Solo Dance (Williamsburg\, VA) – Dance Theatre Solo \nWagner Dance Premiere All Stars (Mesa\, AZ) – Contemporary \nFRIDAY\, SEPTEMBER 25 – Line-up (Alphabetical Order) \nPre-Show Activities: Interactive movement experience with COMMIT Dance Fitness Arizona Ensemble; interactive performance by Step’s Junk Funk \nAhdivah Cohen / Sedona Dance Project – Contemporary\nAstarte Belly Dance Troupe (Gilbert\, AZ) – Egyptian Cabaret \nClasscalFusionDance (Phoenix\, AZ) – Contemporary\nDesert Dance Theatre (Tempe\, AZ) – Contemporary Modern\nKaleidic Creations (Phoenix\, AZ) – Contemporary Modern\nNannette Brodie Dance Theatre & Sustaita Dance Company (Long Beach\, CA) – Modern\nNevada Repertory Dance Theater (Las Vegas\, NV) – Contemporary Modern\nScottsdale Community College Dance Program (Scottsdale\, AZ) – Modern\nWight Noise Dance Company (Peoria\, AZ) – Modern \nSATURDAY\, SEPTEMBER 26 – Line-up (Alphabetical Order) \nPre-Show Activities: Interactive movement experience with COMMIT Dance Fitness Arizona Ensemble; solo dance performance by Victoria Morena Olmos-Tsosie \nCanyon Movement Company (Flagstaff\, AZ) – Modern\nCaZo Dance Theatre (Mesa\, AZ) – Modern\nDesert Dance Theatre/Step’s Junk Funk (Tempe/Mesa\, AZ) – Interdisciplinary Modern & Percussion\nKraken Still and Film (Phoenix\, AZ) – Contemporary\nKrishna A.K.A KCBoy (Phoenix\, AZ) – Hip Hop\nMovement Source Dance Company (Phoenix\, AZ) – Modern\nNannette Brodie Dance Theatre (Long Beach\, CA) – Modern\nNevada Repertory Dance Theater (Las Vegas\, NV) – Modern\nOllin Yoliztli Dance Academy (Phoenix\, AZ) – Mexican Folkloric\nRosenkrans Dans (Phoenix\, AZ) – Contemporary Modern\nUtkala Dance Academy (Phoenix\, AZ) – Sambalpuri Folk Dance\nZoriy (Phoenix\, AZ) – Belly Dance \nDDT Website: http://www.desertdancetheatre.org/\nFacebook: http://www.facebook.com/DesertDanceTheatreAZ \nTwitter: http://www.twitter.com/DesertDanceAZ \nInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/DesertDanceTheatreAZ \nInstagram: @TempeArts \nFacebook: @TempeCenterfortheArts \nQuestions?
