Description: ASU Gammage and the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts, School of Film Dance and Theatre are pleased to host a FREE Eiko & Koma Delicious Movement Workshop on Monday, March 24th from 7:30-9 pm in the Physical Education Building East, Margaret Gisolo Dance Studio (room 132) on Tempe campus.

The Delicious Movement Workshop is designed for people of all levels of training and ability who love to move or who want to love to move with delicious feelings. Dancers, non-dancers, actors, poets, musicians, visual artists or anyone interested in developing their creativity will enjoy the experience. The workshop is grounded in Eiko & Koma’s movement vocabulary as well as their compositional and performance techniques, which employ images, body articulation, floor work and transformation. However, the aim of the workshop is not to teach these. Rather, the participants, through their personal digestion of the material and of the improvisation and nonchalant partnership which supports it, are encouraged to acquire personal taste and flexible discipline to suit their own moving body. They are guided through a series of exercises designed to increase skills and awareness in the areas of focus, coordination and stance. Imagery is used as a creative stimulus. See Eiko and Koma’s website for a longer description of the Delicious Movement Workshop (https://eikoandkoma.org/deliciousmovement).

Besides the workshop other residency activities include another FREE workshop and site-exploration on Sunday, March 23rd, 4pm at the Deer Valley Rock Art Center and a FREE lecture/demonstration on Wednesday, March 26 from 12-1pm in the ASU Art Museum. The residency work during this week will culminate in a public performance at ASU Gammage on Saturday, March 29th at 7pm. For more details, visit www.asugammage.com.

Please join us for this extraordinary opportunity open to everyone throughout the greater Phoenix community as well as to ASU students, faculty, and staff. And please attend the Eiko & Koma’s events to show your support of their incredible contribution to the field of dance and art making. Paid parking for the Delicious Movement Workshop is available in the lot west of PEBE as well as in the visitor lot located off Rural Road between University and Apache.
