Hawkinsdance presents The People Electric (Tucson)
March 16 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm MST$12 – $22
Hawkinsdance presents The People Electric — their first self-produced contemporary dance concert. This hour-long show features multiple works, a cast of 11 dancers, music by Tucson artists, and is produced and choreographed by Artistic Director Shelly Hawkins (recipient of a stART Mini-Grant from The Arts Foundation of Tucson and Southern Arizona).
The title work of the evening, The People Electric, is an expression of feminism with a stylistic nod to the second wave feminist movement of the 1970s, with a cast of 6 incredible dancers. Local music stars Katie Haverly and Jillian Bessett are teaming up to create a score of powerful female vocals and sparkling beats. The other featured work, The Crystal Cave, is a men’s trio scored by Neo-classical pianist Anton Faynberg, and imagines a world undisturbed and uncorrupted, subject to the laws of nature but not the effects of humanity.
Experience powerful and passionate dance artists in their truest form, and in all their glory!
Friday-Saturday 7:30 pm, Sunday 2 pm. Tickets $20, $12 (22 and younger) + service fees.
