Desert Dance Theatre, in its 32nd season, is a contemporary dance company known for its diverse modern dance repertory, interdisciplinary collaborations, and major thematic productions which address important historical as well as current issues. This also marks the 19th Anniversary for “Sister Moses: The Story of Harriet Tubman.”
“Sister Moses” is a beautiful story of a courageous woman’s determination to free her people from slavery through the Underground Railroad. She was one of America’s first liberated women of color, who fought against all odds for the sake of freedom and equality. This powerful dance drama features a cast of over 20 performers including: Desert Dance Theatre dancers with Renee Davis as Harriet Tubman, dramatic narration by Renee Morgan Brooks, African drumming and music direction by Step Raptis, accompaniment by String Sounds, traditional spirituals sung by a vocal ensemble featuring baritone soloist, Greg Dansby, and dance students from PVCC as well as community talent valley-wide. The unique blend of this multidisciplinary presentation highlights the most important episodes of Harriet Tubman’s life.
