Description: The ADC ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING & BRUNCH will be held at The Morning Glory Cafe at The Farm at South Mountain, 6101 S. 32nd Street, Phoenix, (S of Southern on west side of 32nd Street) from 11:00am-1:00pm, on Sunday, January 13, 2013.

Meet ADC Board of Directors and Members from around the state. ADC Regional Representatives will share dance news from their regions. Special guest speakers, Alex Nelson, Director of Arts Learning with the Arizona Commission on the Arts (ACA), and Lynn Monson with Arizona Dance Educators Organization (AzDEO) will provide insights to arts advocacy, arts education, and opportunities for arts funding.

All are welcome to attend. Please bring business cards and/or promotional materials for upcoming events to share with colleagues.

ABOUT THE GUEST SPEAKERS

Alex Nelson joined the staff of the Arizona Commission on the Arts (ACA) in January 2009, where she serves as the Director of Arts Learning, managing the agency’s arts education programs, services and grants. In addition to her work at the Arts Commission, Alex currently serves as the Western Region representative for the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies’ Arts Education Advisory Group and chairs the board of the local network, Emerging Arts Leaders Phoenix. Alex has worked as a teaching artist, museum educator and stage manager. She is a graduate of Arizona State University with degrees in Dance Choreography and French.

Lynn Monson completed Hartford Ballet’s Teacher Training Certificate Program, and earned a BA in Dance at ASU. She has taught dance to all ages, studied Labanotation at the Dance Notation Bureau and is a certified Labanotation teacher. She managed an arts-based charter school, developing integrated curriculum, training staff, writing grants, directing school accountability, and teaching dance classes. Currently, Lynn performs administrative duties for arts organizations. Lynn helped write Performance Objectives for the Arizona Dance Standards in 1997. In 2005-06, worked on the writing team to revise the Arizona Dance Standards, and  worked on developing state assessments for dance. Lynn is a member of the Dance Notation Bureau, International Council of Kinetography Laban, National Dance Education Organization (NDEO), and served on the board of the Arizona Dance Arts Alliance. She helped formed the Arizona Dance Education Organization, serving as Secretary, President and currently Executive Assistant. Lynn also serves as the State Affiliate representative on the NDEO board.
