Description: Founded in 2007 by pianist and conductor Ricardo Castro, The Bahia Orchestra Project is a pioneer initiative in Brazil modeled on the Venezuelan “El Sistema,” the life-changing program that teaches classical music to young students. In recent years, The Orchestra has gained acclaim in Europe for its engaging performances that have brought sold-out houses in London, Berlin and Geneva to their feet. Everywhere they go, these inspiring musicians win over new audiences with their exciting interpretations of traditional repertoire as well as contemporary music and live improvisation. Embarking upon its first U.S. tour, The Bahia Orchestra Project performs with Jean-Yves Thibaudet, one of today’s most sought-after soloists known for his poetic musical sensibilities and dazzling technical prowess.
