The NSAL AZ Ballet Competition, hosted at the South Mountain Performing Arts, offers aspiring dancers ages 14-18, a platform to showcase their talent and dedication to ballet. A highlight of the event is the ballet class led by the legendary, Suzanne Farrell, where participants undergo assessment of their technique, guided by Farrell’s expertise and insight. In addition to class, dancers are required to prepare a ballet variation, providing an opportunity to demonstrate their individual strengths and artistry.


Rules for the National Society of Arts and Letters 2024 Ballet Competition:

1. Eligibility: 

a. Dancers must be between the ages of 14 and 18 at the time of the competition.

a. The competition is open to all genders.

b. The competition is open to participants of all nationalities.

c. Professional dancers are not eligible to participate.

2. Participation Requirements:

a. Each dancer must participate in a 1.5-hour ballet class, where they will be judged on ballet technique and their ability to understand the curriculum.

b. Dancers must prepare a ballet variation not exceeding 2:30

c. Dancers must upload their music selection prior to the event.

d. Costumes are not allowed. Dancers must wear a leotard, tights, and ballet slippers or pointe shoes. Skirts are permitted for the variation.
