The Firebird & La Sylphide
September 18 @ 11:42 am MST
An evening of ballet presented as never before, allow Ballet Arizona to entice you into alternate realities with these two seductive ballets.
The Firebird
Choreography by Ib Andersen
Music by Igor Stravinsky
WORLD PREMIERE
A world premiere by Ballet Arizona’s Artistic Director Ib Andersen featuring his renowned choreography and artistic vision for costumes and sets. This ballet tells the classic story based on a Russian fairytale, with a singularly original twist. Using the lens of today, The Firebird explores themes of love, fantasy, and escapism, making it perfectly in tune with Stravinsky’s modern score.
Produced by Barbara and Donald Ottosen
La Sylphide
Choreography by August Bournonville, staged by Ib Andersen
Music by Severin Løvenskiold
The most iconic of the romantic ballets, this tale of passion and elusive love features an alluring fairy and a diabolical witch who wreak havoc on the life of a young Scotsman, James, who gives up everything for the love of a beautiful, but unattainable woodland sprite.
